Manchester United’s recruitment has come under increasing scrutiny in recent seasons, but one signing from the 2025/26 campaign has emerged as a clear success story.
With the club pushing for consistency and Champions League football, several new arrivals were tasked with making an immediate impact following a busy transfer window.
Among them was a goalkeeper brought in on deadline day, a move that has quickly proven to be one of the smartest pieces of business in the league.
That player is Senne Lammens, who has now been officially named Premier League Transfer of the Season after a remarkable first year in England, as announced on the league’s website.
The 23-year-old arrived at Old Trafford from Royal Antwerp and initially had to wait for his opportunity, making his debut in matchweek seven against Sunderland.
He marked that first appearance with a clean sheet in a 2-0 win, immediately settling into life in the Premier League with a composed display that set the tone for his season.
From there, Senne Lammens became a key figure for United, going on to make 32 league appearances and establishing himself as a reliable presence in goal.
Across the campaign, he recorded 79 saves and kept 8 clean sheets, while also outperforming expected goals metrics, preventing 6.39 goals more than any other goalkeeper in the league.
His consistency earned him multiple individual recognitions, including two nominations for the Premier League Save of the Month award.
International recognition soon followed, with Lammens earning his first senior Belgium cap in November against Liechtenstein, further underlining his rapid rise.
He has also now been included in Belgium’s squad for the upcoming FIFA World Cup, capping off a breakthrough year at both club and international level.
Lammens was shortlisted for the Premier League Transfer of the Season award alongside several notable names, including Viktor Gyokeres, Rayan Cherki, Joao Pedro, Adrien Truffert, Granit Xhaka and Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
The recognition adds to a growing list of accolades for United players this season, with the club finishing third in the Premier League and securing qualification for the 2026/27 Champions League.
The Athletic have also independently named Lammens as their Signing of the Season, reinforcing the impact he has made since arriving at Old Trafford.
