Atalanta ran riot against struggling Torino with a Nikola Krstovic brace and Kamaldeen Sulemana, while Marco Carnesecchi saved a penalty on Ademola Lookman’s comeback.

The Granata recovered from a disastrous 5-0 opening round defeat to Inter by holding Fiorentina 0-0, then earning a shock 1-0 win away to Roma. Adam Masina joined long-term absentees Perr Schuurs and Zanos Sava. Ivan Juric returned to face his old club after stuttering with La Dea, fresh from a midweek 4-0 Champions League defeat at PSG. That saw Charles De Ketelaere and Giorgio Scalvini added to the injury list, with Gianluca Scamacca, Ederson, Sead Kolasinac and Mitchel Bakker. However, Ademola Lookman was back in the squad for the first time since his failed attempt to force a transfer to Inter.

See how it all unfolded on the Liveblog.

There were yet more problems for Juric, as within 10 minutes Nicola Zalewski limped off clutching the back of his right thigh, making way for ex-Torino winger Raoul Bellanova.

It got even worse when Isak Hien also went down with a muscular issue and had to be replaced, using up two substitution slots in the opening half-hour.

Nonetheless, Atalanta did take the lead when Lazar Samardzic got down the right and rolled across for Nikola Krstovic to sweep in first-time relatively undisturbed from 12 yards. It was his first goal for the club since his transfer from Lecce.

They added a second soon after following a break in midfield, as while the Samardzic effort bounced off the base of the upright, Davide Zappacosta laid off the rebound for Kamaldeen Sulemana’s first goal for the club.

Torino crumbled, giving it away with Kristjan Asllani to spark a counter-attack, as Sulemana rolled across from the left for the easiest of Krstovic tap-ins at the back post.

It became one-way traffic, Sulemana hitting the side-netting, as Giovanni Simeone tried to wake his team up with a screamer from distance that skimmed the bar.

Simeone tested Marco Carnesecchi too, only for Atalanta to threaten a fourth on the counter with Sulemana’s daisy-cutter denied by a one-handed Franco Israel save.

Duvan Zapata made his return to Serie A after almost a year out injured and within a couple of minutes had forced a save out of Carnesecchi at the near post.

Moments later, Saul Coco managed to kick a ball in the box before Odilon Kossounou, who only got the back of his leg, for a penalty. Duvan Zapata stepped up, but Carnesecchi saved his second penalty of the week after the Champions League against Paris Saint-Germain.

Raoul Bellanova almost scored a stunner against his former club, a spectacular volley on Sulemana’s cross skimming the crossbar.

Lookman made his Atalanta comeback for the final minutes, coming off the bench after his failed attempt to force through a summer exit to Inter.
