Inter Milan have opened talks with Manchester United in hopes of hashing out a deal for lacklustre forward Rasmus Hojlund.
From the Red Devils’ point of view, they’re prepared to sanction his exit if a suitable offer arrives – although it’ll be nowhere near the ludicrous £64 million they forked out for him back in 2023.
Inter are in dire need of reinforcements following their calamitous showing in Saturday’s Champions League final, which saw Paris Saint-Germain smash the record for the largest winning margin in the fixture when cruising to a 5-0 victory in Munich.
Surprisingly, the Serie A outfit have landed on Hojlund as the ideal option to bolster their attacking contingent next season.
Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg claims the Danish international is a ‘concrete target’ for the club, with ‘talks’ having ‘already taken place’.
Hojlund, 22, is contracted to Old Trafford until 2028, plus the option of an additional year.
He has come under the microscope week in and week out for his substandard performances across 2024/2025, with supporters hugely concerned that Hojlund has regressed in his sophomore campaign in England.
After signing from Atalanta, the centre-forward notched 10 goals in 30 Premier League appearances throughout 2023/2024, yet could only muster a measly four goals in 32 matches this time around.
His young age has bided him more time than others, but the fact you can count his high-quality performances over the last 12 months on one hand has likely prompted INEOS chiefs to cash in while his stocks are still relatively high.
A move to Inter would allow Hojlund to return to Italy in a league that’s perhaps more suited to his abilities at this stage of his career.
