There is a flurry of Tottenham players that have sent out some heartfelt messages to Ange Postecoglou following the Australian tactician’s departure from N17. The ex-Celtic boss was sacked just two weeks after leading the club to its first major trophy in 17 years last month. However, the historic achievement was not enough for the 59-year-old to save himself from the sack at Hotspur Way.
There was a growing belief amongst the fans and the players that Big Ange would stay at the helm for next season after the Europa League success. The Australian was also keen to continue his project at N17 after ending the season on a high. He famously announced at the trophy parade as well that ‘season three’ would triumph the previous two seasons.
But Daniel Levy made it clear that the 59-year-old would not be in charge of the squad to oversee the start of a new era in North London. The disastrous Premier League campaign prompted Levy to make a managerial change in the summer. The Lilywhites finished the domestic campaign just a place a above the relegation zone, registering 22 losses along the way.
It was reported earlier this week that Tottenham players are planning a revolt against the club’s hierarchy following Ange Postecoglou’s departure from N17. This comes after several players posted heartfelt messages on social media thanking the Australian tactician for his leadership and guidance during the last two years.
However, ex-scout Bryan King is not falling for the reports suggesting that the dressing room is unhappy following Big Ange’s sack news. Speaking to Tottenham News, King said,
“However, that news about the players being unhappy, what a load of rubbish. If they cared so deeply about Postecoglou, why did they lose 22 games in the Premier League? It is absolute nonsense. They signed a contract; they’re playing for Tottenham Hotspur Football Club. If you’re so upset, you should have performed better, and maybe Postecoglou wouldn’t have been sacked.”
The ex-Spurs scout added,
“You’re playing for Tottenham, whatever manager is brought in, that is who you’re going to play for. Get on with playing football, and don’t lose 22 out of 38 league games. It was the right decision at the end of the day. Suddenly, all the players are behind him. It didn’t look that way to me. This knee-jerk reaction we’ve seen from the players is ridiculous.”
Bryan King insisted that the players should have performed better if they were so upset about Ange Postecoglou facing the media scrutiny week in week out. The ex-scout added that sacking a manager is part of football and the players should not have lost 22 league games if they did not want Big Ange to get sacked. King insisted that it was the right decision to sack the Australian and the ‘knee-jerk’ reaction from the players is unacceptable.
It remains to be seen who Daniel Levy appoints as the new manager following Ange Postecoglou’s sack. The Lilywhites are heavily linked with a move for Brentford boss Thomas Frank and believe that the Danish tactician will be the perfect man to takeover the reigns at N17.
