Tottenham Hotspur captain Son Heung-min stabbed a dagger into the hearts of many fans around the world with his announcement to leave the North London club this summer after spending 10 years here.

Every Spurs faithful knew this day was coming for quite some time now but no one is ready to face with the prospect of saying goodbye to the South Korean talisman. He has been one of the legends in the modern era for the N17-based club.

It has looked increasingly evident in recent weeks that Son Heung-min wants to leave Tottenham and move to the MLS to play with LA FC. The player even stated that he feels he has achieved everything there is to achieve in North London.

Saudi Arabia emerge as a shock destination

Surprisingly, though, as per a report from Spanish outlet Fichajes, Saudi Arabia has emerged as a possible destination for the Spurs captain after he announced his desire to leave the club this summer transfer window.

There is massive interest from the Middle East in the 33-year-old Asian attacker who are willing to offer a significant financial package to convince Son to move there this summer. However, LAFC seem the most advanced at this stage.

Tottenham for their part have already started preparing for life beyond their club captain. Even in the pre-season friendlies, Thomas Frank has shown the willingness to play without their talisman, almost as a preparation for the future.

Intention seems to be MLS

While Son’s intention at the moment seems to be to move to MLS, it is worth noting that the North American club is yet to agree on a fee with Tottenham for the player’s exit. This would give the chance for Saudi club’s to swoop in.

That said, situations like this have almost always been dependent on the player’s intention. It doesn’t matter which Saudi club is interested and how much money they offer, if the Spurs captain stands firm on him LAFC desire, then that is the move that is likely to happen.

Regardless, in transfer windows, you never say never. One has seen weirder things happen before and hijacked deals are commonplace. Thus, it would be interesting to see where the N17 favourite moves to continue his career next season.
