Over the last 12 months, Manchester United have seen themselves linked with two major Swedish attackers, with another one set to join the club imminently.
Since Ruben Amorim arrived at Old Trafford, The Red Devils were continuously linked with a move for Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres.
Given Gyokeres’ rise to fame under Amorim in the Portuguese capital, a reunion seemed almost certain, however it was not to be.
The pair did reunite in the Premier League on the opening day of this season’s campaign, however as opposition, with Gyokeres having joined Arsenal in the summer.
Following the former Sporting star’s move to London, another Swedish striker became a potential, this time in the form of Alexander Isak.
The 26-year-old became available after a breakdown with Newcastle United saw him want to move away from St James Park.
However, United’s links were short-lived as a move to Liverpool was as good as done.
Now, SportsBladet has reported that United are closing in on a move for a Swedish striker, only this time, for the Women’s team.
Ellen Wangerheim has been excelling for Hammarby, being a contributing factor in securing their historic double two season ago.
It’s understood that negotiations for the move to The Red Devils have been ongoing for some time, with all parties now on the brink of an agreement.
Ellen Wangerheim will be joining a whole host of Swedish stars in the United Women’s squad, with Julia Zigiotti Olme, Fridolina Rolfö and Anna Sandberg at the club, and Hanna Lundkvist having joined this month.
