Tottenham Hotspur are hoping to sign Mathys Tel permanently during the summer transfer window, and they are currently locked in talks with the German champions, Bayern Munich.

According to the Sporting Director of the German club, Max Eberl, the two clubs remain in talks, and it remains to be seen whether they can agree on a deal quickly.

“Mathys was at Tottenham for six months. He wanted to play in the U21 European championship with France, and we allowed him to,” he is quoted as saying to Abendzeitung München. “We’re talking to Tottenham, that’s no secret. We’ll see how that pans out.”

The 20-year-old was on loan at Tottenham during the second half of last season, and he helped them win the Europa League. Although his performances were not exceptional, he has the potential to develop into an important player for the club in future.

Tel has been labelled as ‘extraordinary’ by Thierry Henry in the past.

Tottenham need attacking depth

Spurs need more depth in the attacking unit, and signing the attacker permanently could prove to be a wise decision in the long term. They had an option to make the move permanent for a fee of around €50 million this summer. However, Tottenham want to sign him for a more reasonable amount of money.

It will be interesting to see if the two clubs can finalise an agreement.

Mathys Tel needs to leave Bayern

The player does not have a future at the German club, and it makes sense for him to move on and join Tottenham permanently . He needs to play more often at this stage of his career, and Tottenham are better placed to provide him with that opportunity instead of Bayern Munich.

The player is currently involved in the European Under-21 Championships with France, and Tottenham should look to wrap up the move quickly.
