Tottenham Hotspur are accelerating their plans to hire Thomas Frank as their new boss.
Spurs fired Ange Postecoglou last week following his team’s disastrous domestic season, finishing 17th on the Premier League table. While he did manage to salvage the season with Europa League success, it was not enough for the Australian to keep hold of his job and continue his project in North London.
Now, the club’s keys are about to be handed to Thomas Frank, who has proven himself to be a smart manager at Brentford. The Dane has earned his credentials by maintaining the Bees’ top-flight status in recent seasons on a limited transfer budget, whilst developing players such as Bryan Mbeumo, Yoane Wissa, Christian Norgaard, Kevin Schade and a few more.
The club has a lot of work to do in the transfer market to improve the squad that Frank will potentially inherit from Ange Postecoglou. The North Londoners certainly need more attacking punch and flair after several forwards struggled with form and fitness.
Son Heung-min endured a poor season as per the high standards he has set in the Premier League, while Richarlison’s battle with injuries continued. Dominic Solanke blew hot and cold in his debut season at N17, spending time on the treatment room too. If Spurs are to be competitive in the Premier League and Champions League next term, they’ll have to add more options in attack.
Now, according to a report from Spanish outlet Fichajes, Tottenham are among several Premier League clubs keen on signing Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin. Newcastle United, Manchester United, West Ham and Nottingham Forest are also monitoring his situation.
The England international’s future at Everton is uncertain, with his contract expiring at the end of June (Transfermarkt). Dominic Calvert-Lewin struggled with injury yet again throughout this past campaign, making 26 Premier League appearances . With David Moyes looking to refresh his squad in preparation for their move to a new stadium, there seems no future for the centre-forward in Merseyside.
A move away from the Toffees could do well for the 28-year-old to rejuvenate his career that has stuttered in recent years. A switch to Tottenham may help, giving Calvert-Lewin the platform to showcase his talent. If he manages to put behind his injury problems and stay fit, he’d be a strong back-up for Calvert-Lewin next season.
Thus, on a potential free transfer, Tottenham signing Calvert-Lewin would make sense.
