Tottenham are pursuing a move for Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite
Tottenham Hotspur are set to be in the market for several new players this summer.
The Lilywhites endured a catastrophic domestic 2024/25 campaign but managed to salvage it by winning the Europa League trophy. By doing so, they also joined their Premier League rivals Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester City, Chelsea and Newcastle United to qualify for the Champions League.
That could open the door for Spurs to show more ambition in the transfer market, with the Champions League traditionally a hugely attractive proposition for ambitious players. Ange Postecoglou had to deal with an injury crisis this past campaign, especially in defence.
First-choice centre-backs Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven spent majority of the campaign on the sidelines with injury issues, resulting in lack of stability and leadership at the back. Their back-up Radu Dragusin sustained an ACL rupture in February, while Kevin Danso, whose loan move from RC Lens became permanent at the start of June, also was out for over a month with a hamstring issue.
Thus, the centre-back is an area of the squad that Tottenham look likely to strengthen in the summer transfer window. Now, according to a report from The Times, Tottenham are considering a move for Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite.
Rated as one of the Premier League’s brightest young central defenders, Jarrad Branthwaite blew hot and cold during the 2024/25 season but managed to play a vital role in the impressive turnaround overseen by David Moyes from January. The Toffees finished 13th in the table and played some eye-catching brand of football in Moyes’ fifth months at the helm following his return to Goodison Park.
However, the Scottish tactician now has a fight on his hands to keep hold of Branthwaite. Ideally, Everton remain in good position as far as the Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) is concerned, and with the 22-year-old Englishman under contract until 2027 with the club having the option of extending his stay by an additional 12 months (Transfermarkt), they are set to demand a substantial fee for his services this summer.
Tottenham’s transfer kitty has been boosted by their return to the Champions League after a three-year hiatus, so they should not have problems to spend big to address a problematic area of the squad. At 22, Branthwaite appears to be the current and future of the England squad and would enhance Spurs’ defensive options. He is a tall, strong and physically intimidating defender with good technical ability on the ball, whilst can operate as a left-back when required.
With Van de Ven yet to prove his fitness across two seasons in North London, the left-footed Branthwaite would be a strong option to compete and provide cover for the Dutchman next season. Tottenham need a better and bigger squad to deal with the challenges of Champions League next term, and the acquisition of Everton’s rising star would be a smart one.

New Angels pitcher Grayson Rodriguez reveals interesting health update after Orioles trade
Acquired in a trade with the Baltimore Orioles, new Los Angeles Angels pitcher Grayson Rodriguez believes there is a big reason why he is ready to put his injury history behind him in Anaheim. Just three days after turning 26 years old, Rodriguez is now a member of the Angels after a one-for-one trade that sent outfielder Taylor Ward to Baltimore. He is also hoping that a new location means an end to injuries that have limited him to 43 starts over the past three seasons. That includes zero starts and innings in 2025 because of an elbow issue in spring training, followed by a right lateral strain in April. More elbow problems popped up for Rodriguez in July before he underwent debridement surgery on his elbow in August, officially ending his season. That surgery, however, is, Rodriguez believes, the key to his return to the mound in 2026 as well as his ability to stay on it. "That was something that's kind of lingered with me for about three or four years now," Rodriguez said. If that's the case, it could unlock a pitcher who has logged a 4.11 ERA in 238.2 innings over those 43 starts. He has also registered 9.8 strikeouts per nine innings while issuing just 2.9 walks. Getting those kinds of numbers would be a big boost for an Angels rotation that finished 28th out of MLB's 30 teams last season in ERA at 4.91. It would also represent a missed opportunity for an Orioles team that has stated it is looking for another front-line starter. Rodriguez said on Wednesday he would be ready for spring training, giving hope to the Angels that they have found a pitcher who can be a long-term answer for them on the mound. Rodriguez is not scheduled to be a free agent until the 2030 season. If Rodriguez can stay healthy and produce in Anaheim, it would be a gut punch for an Orioles team that is looking to get back into the postseason conversation in 2026. However, time will tell if those bone spurs are truly the answer to Rodriguez staying healthy and on the field.

Jayden Reed’s anticipated return to the practice field for the Green Bay Packers will have to wait a little longer. Despite some growing hope earlier this week that the dynamic wide receiver could begin the next phase of his recovery, head coach Matt LaFleur confirmed Wednesday that Reed will not open his 21-day practice window yet. “He’s not practicing today,” LaFleur said ahead of Sunday’s critical matchup against the Minnesota Vikings. When pressed for a clearer timeline on the second-year standout, who remains on injured reserve with collarbone and foot injuries, LaFleur deferred to the medical staff. “I don’t know. As soon as medical clears him, he’ll be out there,” LaFleur said. “I know he’s excited to get back. As am I.” The optimism had spiked in recent days. On Monday, LaFleur indicated there was a chance Reed and/or rookie running back MarShawn Lloyd could start their practice windows this week. Reed himself fueled the excitement Tuesday by sharing a photo of himself dressed in full uniform on social media. Those plans, however, are now on hold. Reed’s surgically repaired foot seems to have healed satisfactorily, but the collarbone—fractured on a diving attempt during the first half of Green Bay’s Week 2 victory over the Washington Commanders—still needs additional time. For a wide receiver whose job involves regular physical contact and the risk of landing hard on the shoulder, the medical staff is requiring clear imaging evidence that the bone is strong enough before green-lighting a return. The cautious approach echoes the Packers’ handling of Aaron Rodgers’ similar collarbone injury in 2017, when the former quarterback sat out seven games while waiting for full healing. Nearly 10 weeks removed from the injury and having already missed eight contests, Reed could still require another one to two weeks before doctors are comfortable clearing him for football activities. That timeline keeps a potential return for the Thanksgiving night clash with the Detroit Lions or the following week against the Chicago Bears realistically in play. Before the injury, Reed had established himself as Green Bay’s top receiving weapon. He paced the team in receiving yards in both 2023 and 2024, and in the two games he played this season while managing the foot issue, he recorded three receptions for 45 yards and a touchdown. The Green Bay Packers will continue their Week 12 preparations without their leading wideout on the practice field, with LaFleur and the organization prioritizing full recovery over a rushed comeback.

The Philadelphia Eagles' offense has not been as explosive since Kevin Patullo took over as the new offensive coordinator. The play-calling has been pretty predictable, and, according to The Athletic's Dianna Russini, some players blame quarterback Jalen Hurts for it. "Multiple offensive players have grown frustrated with Jalen Hurts' approach this season, particularly against zone coverage," Russini reported. However, advanced stats indicate that the Eagles aren't maximizing the talents of the reigning Super Bowl MVP. Jalen Hurts has been elite in deep throws this season According to Pro Football Focus on X, Hurts has seven touchdowns, zero interceptions and an outstanding passer rating of 128.2 in throws over 20 yards this season. The Eagles keep running a very conservative offense, even though, per Sharp Football Stats, 10% of their pass plays (55) have been explosive. Explosive pass plays are those that result in a gain of at least 20 yards. Hurts has been absolutely elite in those situations, and with two speedy receivers like A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, this team should be taking more shots down the field. Although they aren't as dominant as last season, the Eagles are still 8-2 and at the top of the NFC East. They have all the resources needed to return to the Super Bowl, and anything less than another deep postseason run should be seen as a failure. Then again, the coaching staff needs to put the players in a position to succeed, and that includes letting them do what they do best.
