Tottenham have tabled an opening bid to hijack Manchester United’s move to sign Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo

Tottenham Hotspur are battling Manchester United for the signing of Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo.

The Red Devils have been keen to sign Bryan Mbeumo for a while now, and the player’s preference is also to move to Old Trafford this summer. They have been leading the race for the forward’s signature and made an opening bid to Brentford earlier this month.

However, the Bees have rejected Manchester United’s opening bid worth £55million including add-ons for the Cameroonian international. While Ruben Amorim’s club remain favourites and have already tabled another bid, failure to agree a deal with Brentford have opened the door for Spurs to swoop in for the player.

Earlier this week, Tottenham tabled an eye-watering £70million opening bid for Mbeumo, who scored 20 Premier League goals for the West London outfit over the past season. Spurs have appointed Thomas Frank as their new coach, someone who has a big hand in the 25-year-old becoming one of the most exciting forwards in the Premier League in the last couple of years.

While the African left-footed ace is still tilting towards joining Man United, Thomas Frank taking the reins at Tottenham could lead to a change in scenario. Ex-Spurs scout Bryan King feels that Tottenham can agree a deal with the Bees due to Mbeumo not having to move away from London and the familiarity with coaching staff that have followed Frank to N17.

“It would be a similar deal to what United were trying to agree,” Bryan King exclusively told Tottenham News.

“For Mbeumo, it will be easier to move to the other side of London than to Manchester, and he’d be working with a staff and manager he knows. All that will change is the colour of his shirt.

“I’m sure Tottenham can agree a deal without any doubt.”

Spurs have shown great intent to get a deal done for Mbeumo by tabling an eye-watering opening bid. Brentford are expected to accept it, considering they wanted more than £60m which Man United failed to table. Now, it is all about convincing the Cameroonian of our project that is set to be driven forward by Frank.

Frank and Mbeumo share a strong working relationship, with the latter having played a key role in his signing at Brentford from Troyes in 2019. The Danish tactician has to work his magic and persuade the former France youth international to join his forces at White Hart Lane. If he gets convinced, Tottenham would pull off a victory against Man United this time off the pitch.
