Tottenham Hotspur need to carry the momentum from their win against Burnley into the next game

After seeing how last season played out for Tottenham in the Premier League, expectations for an immediate resurgence were limited. But Thomas Frank has managed to bring back belief amongst the fanbase after two promising performances against PSG and Burnley. The Danish tactician is nothing like his predecessor, and his gameplan is a lot more organised and controlled.

The Lilywhites were about to cause a massive upset in Thomas Frank’s first official game in charge of the club earlier last week. They had PSG on chokehold for most parts of the game and also had a 2-0 lead against the French giants. But ten minutes of bad passage of play meant that Luis Enrique’s side found a way to equalise and eventually win the game on penalties.

The same kind of positive performance was replicated against Burnley in the first Premier League game of the season. The Lilywhites were on top from minute-one and managed to register an emphatic 3-0 win, thanks to goals from Richarlison and Brennan Johnson. Thomas Frank wanted his team to ‘come flying out’ against the newly promoted side. And they managed to do just that by beating the Clarets comfortably.

Tottenham might look to aim for a ‘top-five’ spot in the PL this season

If Tottenham can replicate the same performance that they managed against Burnley, then we are in for a smooth ride under Thomas Frank. But that is not how football works, and there will be times when the going gets tough. However, there is a lot more enthusiasm and confidence amongst the fans that the Danish tactician is the right man to lead the Lilywhites forward.

Now, John Wenham has given his verdict on where Spurs will finish in the Premier League after a convincing win against Burnley. Speaking to Tottenham News, Wenham said,

“In terms of people previously maybe saying Tottenham are going to finish in an eighth, ninth or tenth. I don’t mean in terms of Tottenham fans who have watched this team throughout preseason and the evolution.”

The Lilywhite Rose owner added,

“But pundits who watch multiple clubs, or don’t in some cases. But I think now we’re looking at a minimum of top five for Tottenham this season. And an advancement out of the initial UEFA Champions League group stage.”

John Wenham pointed out that many were predicting Tottenham to finish just inside the top-half of the Premier League table. But after a strong performance against PSG and a convincing win against Burnley, the Lilywhites Rose owner is confident that Spurs will aim for a top-five finish instead. Wenham also predicts that Thomas Frank’s men will reach the knockout stages of the Champions League this season.

Fans are cautious about not getting their expectations up for this season after just two games. But if the performances continue to be the same, then there is no reason why Spurs cannot finish in a strong position come the end of the season. Thomas Frank has also reiterated several times that he wants his team to be ‘serial winners.’ And that starts now as the Lilywhites look to compete on all four fronts.
