Tottenham had scouts in attendance for FC Porto vs Benfica at the Estadio do Drago to keep a close eye on the Portuguese market

Tottenham Hotspur have performed well under new boss Thomas Frank and deservedly find themselves in the top four spots in the Premier League table. The Europa League champions ended their three-game winless run with a 2-1 victory over Leeds United at Elland Road at the weekend.

After the midweek Champions League exertions in Bodo/Glimt, it was challenging for Thomas Frank and Co. to go to West Yorkshire for an early Saturday lunchtime kick-off. Credit to them to rock up at Leeds United and get the job done, thanks to goals from Mathys Tel and Mohammed Kudus.

Spurs enjoyed a productive summer transfer window, backing Thomas Frank with the required tools to compete in the Premier League and Europe. The Danish tactician has shown very quickly he is capable of managing a big club after spending seven years across the capital at Brentford, and deserves to be supported more in the future.

Going by latest developments, it looks like Frank and Tottenham have already started planning for the next transfer windows.

Tottenham send scouts to watch FC Porto vs Benfica

According to Portuguese newspaper Record (h/t Sport Witness), Tottenham scouts were among 18 different clubs in attendance at the Estadio do Dragao to watch FC Porto take on rivals Benfica on Sunday.

The game ended in a goalless draw and did not offer much excitement, but both managers Francesco Farioli and Jose Mourinho had fielded several youngsters with solid market appeal. For Porto, Gabri Veiga, Victor Froholdt and Rodrigo Mora all featured and have been coveted figures across Europe and beyond. On the Benfica end, Georgiy Sudakov, Antonio Silva and Samuel Dahl were among the exciting names.

Such kind of profiles have generally drawn attention from the Premier League and other major European leagues in recent years. The report (h/t Sport Witness) adds Tottenham officials’ trip to the Estadio do Dragao was part of a ‘broader pattern of scouting’ in Portugal. The presence of the north London club’s scouts at such a big game suggests they are keeping close tabs on future avenues in the transfer market.

Samu Aghehowa could be a player on Tottenham’s agenda

As per recent reports, Spurs are interested in signing FC Porto striker Samu Aghehowa. The 21-year-old has started the new season in a strong fashion, netting five goals in seven league fixtures. The centre-forward started the Liga Portugal Betclic derby and played 75 minutes, with Benfica defenders largely managing to keep him quiet.

Samu Aghehowa is a talented player with a bright future, and it is no surprise that top teams want to secure his signature. The Spanish international is impressing in Portugal’s top division, and there is no doubt that he has the mix of physicality and technical attributes to do well in the Premier League as well.

However, Tottenham would have to spend a fortune to sign Samu as he has a €100 million release clause in his contract.
