Tottenham will have to survive relegation to sign important stars.

Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Vicario has been linked with a Hotspur Way exit in the upcoming offseason, with Inter Milan lining up his signing.

And Spurs are wasting no time in pursuing his replacement with multiple goalkeepers from across Europe linked with a N17 transfer.

Among a lot of targets, though, PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier has quietly emerged as a serious option.

And Tottenham are serious in their pursuit of 24-year-old Lille academy graduate as the Lilywhites make a contract to explore his signing. (h/t RMC Sport as relayed by Sport Witness)

He was signed for a hefty fee by PSG not too long back, but given the emergence of Matvey Safonov, he has struggled to get game time under his belt. And this is where Tottenham can come into the picture and pounce on this market opportunity to bring him to Hotspur Way.

Chevalier is more of a De Zerbi goalkeeper

Having Roberto De Zerbi at the helm propels the Lilywhites’ pursuit of him, given that Chevalier is not your traditional reactive shot-stopping goalkeeper. He is more of an RDZ kind of player who is comfortable with the ball at his feet and quite confident when stepping into build-up phases. He is someone who will be willing to take risks in possession (and that matters a lot under Roberto De Zerbi).

If Tottenham do survive in the English top tier, there is an assumption that goalkeeping will be a position for the next evolution at N17. De Zerbi will want to have a goalkeeper who does more than save shots. Doing all bits from distribution and positioning the back line to showing some bravery under pressure. These are non-negotiables (at least from what we saw of his keepers at Brighton).

And Chevalier does tick those boxes.

Tottenham need to survive in Premier League to sign Chevalier

Chevalier will be expected to rethink his future at Parc de Princes at the end of the season, especially if his minutes do not compound; then he will be pushing PSG to listen to offers. And by the looks of it, Spurs have already positioned themselves for that moment.

That being said, Tottenham will need to keep the Premiership status if they are to push to secure someone of Chevalier’s abilities in the summer, which looks more and more nervy at Hotspur Way as Tottenham still stay in the drop zone going into the final five games of the 2025/26 season.
