Tottenham Hotspur have been offered the chance to sign the Japanese International attacker Kyogo Furuhashi.
The 30-year-old has been linked with the move away from Celtic and a report from TBR Football claims that Tottenham were made aware of his availability. However, the North London club have decided against signing him.
The Japanese International has played under Ange Postecoglou and he was a key player under the former Celtic manager. The player is now expected to join French outfit Rennes. He has been linked with Tottenham in the past as well.
It will be interesting to see if Tottenham decide to move on to other targets. It is no secret that they need attacking reinforcement. Signing a quality attacker should be one of their priorities.
Timo Werner has been linked with the move away from the club, and Richarlison has struggled with injury problems. Tottenham are lacking in depth in the attacking unit and they need another player who can share the goalscoring burden with Dominic Solanke.
Furuhashi could have been a quality acquisition. He is at the peak of his powers and the Japanese international knows Postecoglou’s system well. He could have settled in quickly and made an instant impact.
Tottenham need players who are at the peak of their powers, and the Japanese International certainly fits the profile. He has 12 goals and four assists in all competitions this season.
It is fair to assume that the player would have been tempted to join Tottenham if the North London club decided to take up the opportunity to sign him. It would have been a major step up in his career and the opportunity to reunite with Postecoglou would have been hard to turn down.
It remains to be seen whether Tottenham can bring in the right additions before the January window closes.

Howe will be eager to strengthen the squad ahead of the 2025/26 season. According to Craig Hope of the Daily Mail, Isak informed Newcastle of his desire to leave the club, with reports they are working on numerous deals, including Yoane Wissa from Brentford. Despite the latest developments, it appears Newcastle are hopeful they can persuade their star striker to stay, with manager Eddie Howe addressing the rumours: “There are no contract talks taking place with Alexander Isak. That will be for a later date, potentially,” said the Newcastle manager. “There are things going on behind the scenes. Whatever happens has to be for the best of the club.” “Of course, I hope Isak stays,” added Howe. Alexander Isak Replacement Options It appears likely that Isak will start the season at Anfield, which will be a blow to Newcastle United. Eddie Howe must sign the right replacement, and the club seem to be looking at various options, including Benjamin Sesko, Wissa and Lois Openda. The Magpies were reportedly interested in Joao Pedro, having a £50 million bid rejected before the Brazilian decided to join Chelsea, where he impressed immediately at the Club World Cup. Among the strikers linked, Sesko and Openda appear the most sensible options due to the attributes they share with Isak. However, don’t discount Wissa, who offers Premier League experience and a proven eye for goal.

All signs point to Yankees moving on from Anthony Volpe
With the trade for Ryan McMahon now complete, it would seem New York Yankees’ general manager Brian Cashman has fulfilled one of his three priorities. He can now cross third base off the list, which leaves the rotation and bullpen as his remaining priorities. However, according to one Yankees writer, Cashman might not be done with the infield. Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reported this after the McMahon trade: “The Yankees may not be done adding to their infield. A team source said the Yankees are interested in adding a right-handed hitter who could play the infield.” Kirschner adds that the Yankees have had interest in Willi Castro and Amed Rosario. But the question now is, how would another player fit in the Yankees’ infield? Needless to say, Paul Goldschmidt and Jazz Chisholm Jr. aren’t going anywhere, and McMahon is just getting there. That leaves the low-hanging fruit. Anthony Volpe has been at the center of controversy all this season. His 13 errors, many of which had come at make-or-break moments, amount to the second-highest total in the game. In addition, his bat has not been able to compensate, hitting .214/.286/.407 with 14 home runs. There was always a lot to like about Volpe. He won a Gold Glove in his rookie year, his power has always been promising and his speed is nothing to scoff at. Unfortunately, his glove has become a liability and his speed has also produced very few results. Volpe has swiped just 10 bags in 17 attempts. His power is the one thing that still has some upside, but it hasn’t been enough to justify a spot in the lineup. Both Castro and Rosario have been far more productive at the plate this season than Volpe. Kirschner doesn’t clarify how serious the Yankees are in their pursuit of another infielder, but that most likely isn’t available information. Having just turned 24, Volpe could still become the type of player that was expected from him as a top prospect. However, his recent performance has weighed heavily on his team’s efforts and it may be buying him a ticket out of the Bronx — or at least a spot on the bench.
ESPN Predicts Mets-Twins Trade One Week Before Deadline
The New York Mets are a half-game ahead of the Philadelphia Phillies for first place in the NL East, but their pitching staff is still injury-ravaged despite the recent returns of Sean Manaea and Frankie Montas. Brandon Waddell (hip), Dedniel Nuñez (elbow), Max Kranick (flexor), Paul Blackburn (shoulder), Tylor Megill (elbow), Griffin Canning (Achilles), Drew Smith (elbow), A.J. Minter (lat), Danny Young (elbow), and Christian Scott (elbow) are alll on the Mets' IL. The MLB Trade Deadline is July 31 at 6 p.m. EST, so the front office has one week to add healthy arms from around the league this season. ESPN's David Schoenfield predicted on Thursday that New York would trade for a Minnesota Twins reliever. "One guarantee of the trade deadline: The Mets will add to the bullpen, probably with more than one trade. Though the rotation still ranks fifth in ERA, that was built off a hot start," he wrote. "More importantly, the only Mets starter to complete six innings since June 7 has been David Peterson. As a result, manager Carlos Mendoza has run relievers Reed Garrett, Huascar Brazoban, Jose Butto and Ryne Stanek into the ground. The bullpen had a 2.78 ERA through May, but that figure is over 5.00 since the beginning of June (ranking near the bottom of the majors)." "The Twins have two high-profile relievers in [Jhoan] Duran and [Griffin] Jax, both of whom are under team control through 2027, so they'll be much more expensive than your usual short-term relievers if the Twins decide to trade one or both," he continued. "Duran would be harder to deal -- but bring more in return -- so we'll say Jax will go. Don't be fooled by his 4.09 ERA: He has 68 strikeouts and 12 walks in 44 innings with a 97-mph heater. He's an elite strikeout reliever, the type you want on the mound in October." The Mets are hot despite their injuries, as they're on a four-game winning streak and just swept the Los Angeles Angels. Next up is a road trip against the San Francisco Giants and San Diego Padres. New York right-handed pitcher Clay Holmes (8-5, 3.48 ERA) will face Giants right-hander Logan Webb (9-7, 3.08 ERA) on Friday.
Deebo Samuel’s redemption charge is already turning heads at Commanders camp
The Washington Commanders believe they have something special on their hands with Deebo Samuel Sr., and the veteran wide receiver is already making his presence felt in the best possible way. Samuel was cast aside by the San Francisco 49ers for nothing more than a fifth-round selection this offseason. Adam Peters wasn't ready to throw in the towel on his career, bringing him to the Commanders in a low-risk, high-reward transaction that could have significant benefits attached. Criticism around his focus, attitude, and conditioning was rife after the trade became official. Samuel's heard it all and is working immensely hard to silence every doubter coming his way. And he's off to a tremendous start. Deebo Samuel Sr. is already standing out at Commanders training camp The former second-round pick out of South Carolina is setting the tone without the services of holdout Terry McLaurin to depend upon. Samuel has shone over the opening stages of training camp, and Zach Selby from the team's website believes this is just the start if the same trend continues. [Deebo] Samuel had the first explosive play of camp on Wednesday. That basically set the tone for the rest of the week for Washington's new wideout. Samuel has dedicated much of his time to building chemistry with Daniels and learning Washington's offense. He's made progress in both areas, and without giving too much away, the Commanders have taken advantage of Samuel's versatility. Samuel is determined to prove that he can still be an integral part of an offense, and so far, he has shown exactly that in the first week. It will be fun to see how he grows as he gets more comfortable in the scheme. If Samuel gets a clear run of luck on the health front, there's just no telling what he could accomplish in Washington. He looks lean, explosive, and hungry. And in terms of his scheme fit in Kliff Kingsbury's offense, it's a match made in heaven. Once McLaurin's situation gets resolved in a way that suits everybody, the Commanders have a potentially potent wideout tandem on their hands. Samuel is the best running mate he's ever had. And with players like Noah Brown, Luke McCaffrey, and rookie Jaylin Lane also expected to make a lasting contribution, Washington's passing attack looks in tremendous shape with quarterback phenom Jayden Daniels leading the charge. Samuel is a key cog in the wheel. Whether he can get anything close to his previous All-Pro-caliber production is debatable, but there's nothing to suggest a profitable campaign isn't well within his capabilities if he can extend this exceptional start into the regular season.
