Tottenham Hotspur do not have current plans to recall teenage prodigy Mikey Moore from a disastrous loan spell at Rangers
Tottenham Hotspur have always focused on developing youngsters and promoting academy talents. To aid their development, the north Londoners generally send them out on loan to get minutes and toughen up with experiences. This past summer transfer window was no different either, as several talents from the academy went out on loan.
Mikey Moore, regarded as one of the brightest talents from the famed Tottenham academy, joined Rangers on a season-long loan. Russell Martin, after being appointed as the new Rangers boss in June, convinced the Tottenham talent to join his forces at the Ibrox ahead of several Championship clubs.
However, Rangers are now on the hunt for a new manager after sacking Russell Martin on Sunday after an awful start to the 2025/26 season. The Gers decided to part ways with Martin after winning just one out of seven Scottish Premiership fixtures, dropping out of the Champions League qualifying and failing to win either of the club’s opening two Europa League matches. The 39-year-old’s last game in charge of Rangers was the 1-1 draw with Falkirk.
Now, Tottenham will be keeping close tabs on Mikey Moore at Rangers, even more so after Martin’s axing. The teenager winger, who penned a new long-term deal with Tottenham in August, has been a victim of the Gers’ mismanagement and torrid spell under Martin. He failed to become a regular starter in Martin’s side and did not make much of an impact when called off the bench.
Ex-scout Bryan King has urged the Lilywhites to recall Moore from his loan stint at the earliest possible opportunity, such has been the England youth international’s struggles in the Scottish Premiership. The winger received plenty of interest during the summer transfer window, especially from the Championship, and fans would think Spurs must now be regretting their decision to send him on loan to Rangers. However, it does not look likely to be plan at the moment.
According to a report from the Evening Standard, Tottenham have no “immediate plans” to recall Moore in January. There are several clubs in the Championship who are circling to take the 18-year-old on loan for the second half of the season, but while the option to recall him exists, the north London club have no intentions to do so unless his situation at the Ibrox reaches to an extreme.
It is clear Spurs wanted to Moore to test himself at a very high level and in an extremely competitive atmosphere, considering that he will eventually come back prepared and stronger when he fully breaks through at White Hart Lane. So, Frank and the club bosses’ idea to send him on loan to Rangers was not wrong.
However, the pressure of performing in a highly competitive club like Rangers and in front of a boisterous Ibrox crowd, coupled with the toxicity created during Martin’s brief spell, has apparently consumed our golden boy. It has had a negative impact on his performance levels, with the young attacker’s confidence being shot to pieces, as evidenced by his recent outings.
Thus, the Europa League champions should reconsider their decision and look to recall Moore in January. A loan in Championship football for the second half of the campaign would not be a bad idea at all. Should Spurs feel the English prodigy should continue slogging at Rangers, Moore should better pray that whoever replaces Martin at the helm helps him to kickstart his season.
