With the season now complete, Tottenham are shifting their focus to pre-season friendlies and the highly anticipated UEFA Super Cup clash against European giants Paris Saint-Germain. To compete at that level, the Lilywhites know significant reinforcements are needed. According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Tottenham are confident of securing the signing of out-of-contract England international Angel Gomes this summer.
The former Manchester United midfielder, is set to depart from France when his contract runs out next month and Tottenham is currently in the lead to secure his services, on a bosman transfer. Speaking for Football Transfers, Journalist Ben Jacobs has said that Tottenham feels confident in recent days and thinks it could be close to an acceptance on their contract offer. Gomes has been on the radar of other clubs, West Ham and Marseille particularly interested in the talented midfielder.
Angel Gomes has been described as a ‘phenomenal’ talent, and made his move to Lille from Manchester United back in 2020. Gomes made 134 appearances in five seasons at Lille, scoring 10 goals and registering 19 assists.
The 24 year old has found himself out of the Lille starting XI on a regular basis this season, only starting 10 Ligue 1 matches and three in the Champions League. Journalist Ben Jacobs revealed on Last Word on Spurs that ‘Tottenham have made a contract offer for Gomes and in the last 48-72 hours, have grown increasingly confident that their offer will be accepted.’
The Journo speaking on Last Word On Spurs, believes the deal could be confirmed very soon
“Gomes is another possibility, and Tottenham have made an offer.”
“What I’ve heard in the last kind of 48 hours is that Tottenham have grown in confidence that their offer might be accepted.”
Tottenham should finalize Ange Postecoglou’s future before confirming any new transfers, with uncertainty apparently still hovering over whether the Australian will be in charge next season. Fabrizio Romano reports that the club is weighing up their options internally, and that a decision will be announced “very soon.” With that Europa League victory adding to both morale and cash reserves, the club is now poised to embark on a summer shake-up to enhance an ailing squad for next season’s challenges.
