Tottenham are keen to add Everton star Jarrad Branthwaite to their ranks for next season

Tottenham need to bring in reinforcements in the summer if they want to build on the Europa League success next season. The Lilywhites face a massive squad overhaul after enduring a tough domestic campaign. And many issues on the pitch need some addressing before next season starts. The lack of squad depth and quality of players has been clear for all to see under Ange Postecoglou.

The Europa League glory is just papering over the cracks that are prevailing at N17. Many fans have urged Daniel Levy to sign quality players as Spurs look to close the gap on their rivals next season and compete for more trophies. It is important to note that the Lilywhites need to adopt the ‘sell-to-buy’ policy in the summer due to the poor Premier League campaign.

The lack of defensive options this season proved that the North London club was underprepared for a busy campaign. The injury crisis at Hotspur Way did not help Ange Postecoglou’s cause either as many key players missed crucial games. Big Ange had to rely on inexperienced players to fill the void left behind by the reliable stars in the squad.

Tottenham look to land Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite in the summer

Tottenham needs to bring in defensive reinforcements in the summer to start a new era at the club. With Cristian Romero heading for a potential exit in the summer, Daniel Levy will need to bring in a quality replacement to fill the defensive void left behind by the Argentina international.

As per Football.london, Spurs are interested in signing Jarrad Branthwaite from Everton in the summer. The Lilywhites are facing competition from Chelsea for the England international’s signature, but it is believed that Tottenham are leading the race to land the Everton defender. Daniel Levy believes that Branthwaite would be the perfect replacement of Romero as Tottenham look to compete in the Champions League next season.

The Liverpool Echo suggests that the Toffees are not interested in selling the centre-back in the summer and are willing to open contract talks with the 22-year-old instead. Everton are also willing to build their project around Branthwaite as they kickstart a new era at the Hill Dickinson Stadium from next season onwards. The Englishman will also not force a move away from the club as he is happy to stay in Merseyside.

Signing Branthwaite would be a step in the right direction. The England international can play in a high line, and he is also quick to cover the spaces left behind while pressing high. The 22-year-old is comfortable with the ball in his feet and has a good leap. He is also strong in grounded duels and tends to break the press with his good passing range.

Daniel Levy must act quick and promise Branthwaite regular gametime if he wants to sign the 22-year-old. It is believed that Everton would also ask for a higher fee and would not negotiate terms for the centre-back easily. Tottenham are also set to miss out Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi as the talented centre-back does not want to join the North London club.
