Tottenham Hotspur will be ready with their first offer for Morgan Rogers in January

The summer window of 2025 proved crucial for Tottenham Hotspur, following their 17th-place finish in the Premier League the previous season. The club made a significant decision and appointed Thomas Frank as the new manager. Following his arrival, many important changes were implemented.

Big names like Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig and Mohammed Kudus from West Ham joined. Mathys Tel was signed permanently, while Kevin Danso and Kota Takai also became part of the team. Additionally, Joao Palhinha and Randal Kolo Muani were signed on loan.

The most shocking move came when Heung-min Son was sold to MLS club LAFC in a deal worth around £20 million. Apart from this, Daniel Levy, who was associated with the club for a long time, suddenly left the post. Although Tottenham added many big players, Eberechi Eze’s move to Arsenal remains a sore spot.

What now for Morgan Rogers?

CaughtOffside‘s report has made the situation more interesting. Tottenham are now planning to sign Aston Villa’s 23-year-old midfielder Morgan Rogers. Villa are keen to demand £100 million, but Spurs are ready to make an initial offer of £60 million.

He scored eight goals and provided 11 assists in the Premier League for Aston Villa, while he had a total of 14 goals and 16 assists in all competitions. Villa manager Unai Emery considers the attacking midfielder an important player, which is why the club recently extended his contract until 2030.

Spurs’ initial offer is likely to test the waters, but the deal is more likely to happen if Tottenham offer something closer to £100 million. Meanwhile, there are also reports of changes in the investment structure within the club. Martin Semmens believes Tottenham will oversee ‘change in investment’ following Daniel Levy’s departure, and against this backdrop, it seems sense to make a statement signing or two.

Is Rogers the right choice for Spurs?

The key question now is how much Tottenham truly need the 23-year-old Englishman. With Son Heung-min having left for MLS and James Maddison sidelined with a long-term injury, the team is lacking creativity and firepower in attack. In this context, the arrival of a versatile player like Rogers could make a significant difference.

Rogers is capable of playing not only as an attacking midfielder but also on the wings, and his ability to both score and create chances would be extremely valuable for Tottenham. Thomas Frank’s coaching philosophy emphasizes players who can operate in multiple roles, and Rogers fits that profile well. His strengths lie in direct runs, dribbling ability, and relentless work rate. He could adapt quickly to the vertical passing and wide overloads demanded by Tottenham’s system.

That said, there are some shortcomings. His decision-making in the final third is not always precise, though this should improve with experience. His aerial duel success rate is also relatively low, an area that needs development. Still, his progress under Unai Emery at Aston Villa demonstrates his willingness and capacity to improve.

Securing a deal will not be easy, but if Tottenham genuinely want to compete at the highest level, they must invest in players of this calibre. Especially with Daniel Levy’s departure steering the club in a new direction, and with reports suggesting Spurs will pursue two major signings, the move for Rogers reflects the club’s evolving ambitions. Fans will hope the board makes the right decision to restore Tottenham’s ability to challenge at the top of the Premier League.
