Tottenham Hotspur target Morgan Rogers could be on his way out of Aston Villa in 2026

Tottenham did manage to save face in the transfer window after securing two high-profile deals in the end. The Lilywhites brought in Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig and Randal Kolo Muani from PSG as they looked to bolster the attack for this season. However, the North London club had to face a lot of rejections in the summer before shifting their focus on these two players.

Thomas Frank was keen to elevate the quality of the squad heading into the transfer market. The Danish tactician stated from the beginning that he aimed to make Spurs ‘serial winners’ during his time at N17. And for that, the ex-Brentford boss had to be backed in the summer by addressing the issues on the pitch.

Daniel Levy did manage to bring in players that instantly elevated the team’s ceiling, but he failed to land a new #10 to fill in the void left behind by James Maddison. The England international’s sudden ACL injury proved to be a massive problem for the Lilywhites as they failed to bring in a replacement in time for Thomas Frank.

Tottenham will be in the running to sign Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers

It was reported earlier that Tottenham were interested in signing Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa in the summer. The Lilywhites viewed the England international as the ideal replacement of James Maddison for this season. And Daniel Levy was also willing to pull out all the tricks in the book to land the 23-year-old. However, the Villans did not budge after Unai Emery made it clear that Rogers was a key part of his plans for this season.

However, Spurs have now received a massive boost in their efforts to land the attacker next summer. As per Pete O’Rourke (via Football Insider),

“Aston Villa did everything they could to make sure he didn’t have to be sold in the summer as part of the PSR and FFP issues they were struggling with. The price tag and everything else ensured there was no deal to be done in the summer, and nothing will happen in January.”

The journalist adds,

“But it will be interesting to watch next summer, it could depend on where Villa are at with regard to PSR and what type of season they have. If those concerns are still there for Villa, then we could see them potentially forced to sell players and Rogers, of course, could be one of those because of the interest in him.”

Pete O’Rourke shares that Aston Villa were never really forced to sell Morgan Rogers in the summer after pricing out any potential move for the player. The journalist also claims that the Villans will not see Rogers go in January as well. However, O’Rourke has pointed out that Villa will have to cave in next summer if their PSR issue is not solved, and also if Unai Emery’s side endures a poor season in the Premier League.

An earlier report stated that Spurs were willing to make a move for Rogers in January. However, with O’Rourke suggesting that a January move seems unlikely, it looks like the Lilywhites would have to wait till next summer. This goes in line with the report that the Birmingham-based club will try to price out Tottenham in the winter by setting a £100m price tag on Rogers.
