Manchester United are approaching the summer window, where the possibility of Champions League football could play a huge part in improving the squad ahead of the new season starting.

Michael Carrick’s side, third in the Premier League currently, may secure qualification for UEFA’s most prestigious club tournament with a top five finish in the English top flight.

Qualification for the Champions League could aid the club when looking at potential new targets for the squad.

One player who the club could turn towards is Adam Wharton who looks set to leave Crystal Palace at the end of this season.

Carlos Baleba also looks to be on a similar path, with Brighton and Hove Albion now decreasing their asking price for the midfielder ahead of the summer transfer window.

Midfield is not the only area where Manchester United could look to improve, with defensive positions also an area that may be strengthened.

Now, the club are said to be monitoring Charlie Cresswell according to Ben Jacobs speaking on the United Stand YouTube channel.

Speaking further about the deal’s position currently, the journalist stated: “One name that I think they really like, that’s a new name I can bring to the mix is Charlie Cresswell, who used to be at Leeds United.

“An England Under-21 international, Wolfsburg came very close to signing him in the January window but were not able to meet the Toulouse valuation.

“So, he’s still there, he’s playing every week in Ligue 1. Along with a few other names, he’s one of the profiles that Man United are looking at.”

West Ham United have also expressed their interest in the defender continually, although interest from Old Trafford could decrease the chances of the Hammers signing him.

Either move would see the 23-year-old move to the Premier League, with the focus now switching towards the former Leeds United player’s decision.
