Trinity Rodman suffered an MCL sprain when the Washington Spirit thrashed Monterrey 4-0 in the Concacaf W Champions Cup, in the fifth round.
Rodman, 23, left the field on crutches, setting off alarm bells for her club and the USWNT, as she had just been called up for the November camp.
Spirit head coach Adrian Gonzalez gave a positive update a few days later, stating that the player is facing the best possible scenario, and that they will manage her recovery day by day, without committing to an estimated date for her return.
Finally, Rodman has spoken out after suffering this injury.
"Learning how to trust GODS timing," wrote the Spirit's #2 in her most recent Instagram story, which shows her doing rehabilitation exercises.
The recovery time for the injury she suffered will depend on its severity, with an estimated time of two to eight weeks, according to Banner Health.
The dates and times for the NWSL playoffs will be announced during the first week of November. The quarterfinals will take place between the 7th and 9th, while the semifinals will be on the 15th and 16th. Rodman's participation will depend on how far Washington goes, and how long she takes to recover.
In a recent appearance on CBS Sports' W Golazo, Kelley O'Hara strongly criticized coach Gonzalez's decision to field Rodman in a match of little relevance.
“This game was to go out on top of their group. And the question is, does she needs to be playing?,” she said. “That’s my first thought. Is it worth her risking injury? But I just… she looked like she was in a lot of pain. It just is very, it’s a very scary moment for her specifically, but also for Spirit.”
Rodman had not been called up to the USWNT since April due to her back problems, and now she will have to wait again for a significant period to represent the United States given this most recent setback.
