Troy Deeney gives his honest assessment of Gyokeres move to Arsenal

Troy Deeney has shared his thoughts on Viktor Gyokeres following the striker’s move to Arsenal from Sporting Club this summer. The Swedish forward enjoyed excellent form during his time in Portugal, scoring nearly 100 goals over two seasons and attracting interest from several top European clubs. “People don’t realise the difference between playing in Portugal and playing for Arsenal or Manchester United or Liverpool.

“Gyokeres’ numbers are fantastic. You can never deny the goals he scored in Portugal — it’s up there with Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi levels.

“But he had a lot of chances because Sporting dominated the ball.”

Deeney’s perspective highlights the challenges that players often face when moving from one league to another. The Premier League is renowned for its pace, intensity and defensive organisation, which can make it difficult for even the most talented forwards to immediately reproduce their previous scoring exploits.
