Luis Suárez has never been the type to stay out of the headlines sometimes for his brilliance, other times for his behavior. From the infamous bites to controversial handballs and more, his career has always balanced breathtaking talent with moments of chaos. The latest chapter came during the Leagues Cup final, where his actions once again sparked outrage and, eventually, a suspension from MLS.

But while the punishment has been handed down, not everyone is convinced the league got it right. Now, a U.S. soccer legend has weighed in, questioning whether MLS truly handled the Suárez situation the way it should have.

Former soccer star Alexi Lalas shared his thoughts on the decision by the MLS saying, “I think it's fair for the three-game suspension within MLS. That it took this long? OK, yeah, I can appreciate the fact that you want to make sure that you get it right and that you talk to the people involved and you have all of your facts in order before you make a decision. That is a serious repercussion here and has an impact not just on the player and on the team, but on the race to the playoffs. But it just took a long time for this to happen. But I think ultimately they got it right."

What Did Suarez Do Again?

Luis Suárez is in trouble again this time with Major League Soccer. The Inter Miami striker has been hit with a three-game suspension after spitting on a Seattle Sounders staff member during the fiery Leagues Cup final on August 31. He’d already been slapped with a six-game ban by the Leagues Cup Disciplinary Committee, but that punishment only applied to future editions of the tournament. MLS stepped in with its own ruling, sidelining him for upcoming matches against Charlotte FC, D.C. United, and Seattle.

The 3-0 defeat in Seattle ended in chaos, with Suárez clashing with players and then directing his anger at Sounders security director Gene Ramirez. Suárez later posted an apology on Instagram, admitting he lost control in the heat of the moment and saying he regretted setting a poor example for his family and club. Unfortunately, it’s not the first time his career has already seen bans for biting and racial abuse.
