  • The USMNT midfielder is open to playing in the MLS

One of the biggest stars in the current USMNT is Weston McKennie. The American midfielder is playing for Juventus in the Serie A, but is currently in his final year with the Italian club.

McKennie is currently being played under new manager Igor Tudor and has appeared in five Serie A matches and two Champions League games.

The player has yet to receive a contract extension at Juventus, and if he doesn't, a move many will not expect could happen. McKennie is currently 27 years old and has spent his entire professional career playing in Europe.

Matteo Moretto reports that McKennie's future could be in the MLS, a league he has never played in throughout his professional career. The move to the MLS could happen sooner rather than later.

Why is Weston McKennie Open to a Move to the MLS?

While a move to the MLS is seen as a move for players older than 30, McKennie is reportedly open to playing in the MLS starting next season. McKennie is expected to stay at Juventus until the end of his contract, which is next June.

According to Moretto, several MLS clubs have expressed their interest in signing McKennie, and the American midfielder is open to joining the MLS next year.

Moretto reports that due to personal reasons, McKennie is considering a move to the MLS as soon as next season. McKennie was part of the FC Dallas academy for seven years.

He made his professional debut with Schalke 04 in Germany in 2017 after joining the German club in August 2016.

McKennie is expected to get more minutes this season at Juventus ahead of the World Cup, but after the tournament with the USMNT, the American star may announce his intention to leave Europe to return to the U.S.
