Carlos Alcaraz loves eating, and who doesn’t? In fact, one of his goals in life is to learn more about cooking. In an interview with the ATP Tour back in 2022, Alcaraz revealed that he was fond of pasta, kebabs, and sushi, among others; while his guilty pleasure is pizza.
Back to the present, Alcaraz surprised the fans when appeared on a cooking show where he could be seen making a dish from bread and eggs along with chef David de Jorge. The clip of the same surfaced on social media hours after Alcaraz announced that he wouldn’t be playing in the Madrid Open.

Alcaraz pulled himself out of the Madrid Open because of the hamstring injury he suffered during the Barcelona Open final against Holger Rune. The Spaniard, a two-time Madrid Open champion, last won the title in 2023. He will now hope to recover before the Italian Open which he skipped last year due to an injury.
Alcaraz in Barcelona was chasing his second clay-court title of the season following the Monte Carlo Masters which he won for the first time by beating Lorenzo Musetti. Had Alcaraz won that final against Rune, it would have been his third title of the season. Prior to the title in The Principality, the 21-year-old defeated Alex de Minaur to lift his career’s first Rotterdam Open title.
Novak Djokovic reveals what he found harsh about what Carlos Alcaraz said about tennis
Carlos Alcaraz prioritizes happiness over accomplishments. He wants to find joy while playing tennis and doesn’t want it it take complete control over him, and at present, the four-time Grand Slam champion doesn’t know if he has the mindset to become the greatest player in the history of tennis.
In his Netflix documentary Carlos Alcaraz: My Way, he said he doesn’t want to feel like a slave to tennis. Novak Djokovic understands why Alcaraz feels like this but he didn’t like the words the Murcia native used.
I understand that is a little bit of a harsh word to describe the feeling of being locked by the game in some way. The game of life or the game of your profession of this sport. But I do understand why he said it.
Novak Djokovic told reporters
Djokovic holds a 5-3 head-to-head record against Alcaraz and won their last two encounters (in the 2024 Paris Olympics final and the 2025 Australian Open final). He could have set up a semifinal clash with Alcaraz had the latter played the Madrid Open.
It gives you an opportunity to do your work and to be thankful that you are doing something you are passionate about and you are successful in it but at the same time, there is the other side as well. I understand why he said it but maybe he used a bit of a harsh word to describe it.
Novak Djokovic added
In the documentary, Alcaraz also revealed how the heartbreaking defeat to Djokovic in the 2023 French Open semifinal affected him. Alcaraz said that he went to Ibiza just to get ‘wasted’. He partied there for three days following which, he won the Queen’s Club Championships and took revenge on Djokovic in the Wimbledon final, denying him the Calendar Grand Slam.
Alcaraz, who has often complained about the tennis schedule, said taking that time off helped him recharge his batteries. But his team, including coach Juan Carlos Ferrero , was against him going to Ibiza. Ferrero even admitted that he thought it would be hard for him to continue working with him if Alcaraz was not determined. Ferrero joined Alcaraz’s team in 2019 and guided the young gun to four Grand Slam titles and to No.1 rankings.

Latest: Two top sources say Chelsea close to getting €30m they want for defender
Chelsea’s attempts to sell Renato Veiga have taken a while to get going, but it looks like they’re moving now. Links to Juventus, Bayern Munich and Inter Milan have gone nowhere. Atletico Madrid came close to signing him then moved on to David Hancko. It’s all left Veiga as one of the few players who has had links away from Chelsea all summer without actually finding a move. Spanish side make major steps to Veiga signing Now things finally are in gear – Villareal are serious about signing him and the defender has already agreed personal terms, according to Fabrizio Romano’s report from yesterday. As you’d expect when it comes to a mid-table Spanish side trying to sign a valuable young player from Chelsea, the real battle is over the transfer fee. Spanish paper AS have the move broken down – the Yellow Submarine didn’t want to pay more than €20m for Veiga, while Chelsea wanted €35m. It sounds like an impossible gap to bridge, but both sides have clearly seen their position was unreasonable. We’ve now reached a point where they’ve almost met in the middle. A value of €27m plus a percentage of a future sale is being discussed. Romano weighs in with his take on the deal That’s pretty much in line with what Fabrizio Romano has just Tweeted out. He says that it’s actually €24m plus add ons, with Chelsea aiming to figure out a deal where they can get €30m if all conditions are met. That still feels like a major outlay for Villareal, who don’t often spend more than €15m, but it’s not impossible. Veiga could be a major player for them this season and they’ve made sales this summer which have given them some cash to work with.
Steelers undrafted rookie reportedly upset Mike Tomlin before being cut
The Pittsburgh Steelers surprisingly had a few quality undrafted free agents during 2025 training camp and preseason, as many of them have put up an actual fight to make it to the 53-man roster. Unfortunately, there is very little room on the team, so some very tough decisions will have to be made on that front. Guys like Max Hurleman and JJ Galbreath have been stating their case throughout camp and into gameday, giving the coaching staff a good problem. One decision was surprisingly easy, however. During his weekly Q A chat, insider Ray Fittipaldo was asked about undrafted rookie Roc Taylor and why he was let go right after the preseason Week 2 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He spoke about something that happened right before that contest. "[Roc Taylor] actually got in Tomlin's doghouse at the joint practice," Fittipaldo said. "Not sure if that's the sole reason he was cut, but maybe part of it." Fittipaldo would not expand on what happened, but head coach Mike Tomlin saw enough of the rookie before gameday. It looked like Taylor would at least get first dibs on a practice-squad spot if he was released on roster cutdown day, but now, it seems like his chance of developing in Pittsburgh is gone entirely. Now, he is just hoping someone gives him a call for a chance to be on a practice squad elsewhere. It seemed like Taylor's stock was rising after preseason Week 2. Hurleman had a very rough game, and the former Memphis Tigers standout had three receptions for 39 yards against the Bucs. He was the second-leading receiver on the team, only behind Roman Wilson. It looked like he was forcing himself onto a roster spot, but apparently, Tomlin might have just been waiting until after the game to tell him to pack his bags and try again somewhere else. Steelers' recent receiver issues make Taylor cut even more concerning What makes this decision even more rough is the fact that the Steelers have three receivers who are not healthy at all. Calvin Austin III is trying to return after missing multiple weeks of practice with an injury, Ben Skowronek recently developed a toe issue and utility man Jonnu Smith has barely participated in practice since July. Spots were opening up for undrafted rookies to take, but Taylor may have said or done something inexcusable enough to lose that chance. The Steelers entered training camp with questionable wide receiver depth, and now it's only more concerning. Wilson's recent development has been the bright spot of the preseason at that position, as Scotty Miller has been taking over the role of WR3 since the game against Tampa Bay. That's why they brought in another possibly injured veteran, Gabe Davis, for a visit, and now they may be hoping that he does not sign elsewhere. Instead of Taylor taking the opportunity to push for a roster spot, guys like Hurleman and Brandon Johnson will be looking to make the team and stick around as numerous players recover from their injuries. With Davis having another visit on Wednesday and the Steelers playing in the preseason finale on Thursday, he most likely will not be signed until after that game. That means the bubble players can prove to the team that they don't need him. It's not public in regards to what Taylor did to get himself in trouble, but he could have had this prime opportunity to be on an active roster as an undrafted rookie. He could have easily been above Hurleman and Johnson on the depth chart. Instead, he is just hoping he makes any team's practice squad now.
Texas' Arch Manning reacts to grandfather Archie's 2026 NFL Draft prediction
Texas Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning should keep his family group chat updated about his decision for the 2026 NFL Draft. He doesn't want it tipping his plans, especially when they're not confirmed. Manning's grandfather, former New Orleans Saints QB Archie, told Texas Monthly his grandson isn't going to declare for the 2026 draft in a story published at the beginning of August. The 21-year-old passer, however, clarified he's keeping his options open. "I don't know where he got that from," Manning said Tuesday, via CJ Vogel of OnTexasFootball. "He texted me and apologized about that, but I'm really just taking it day-by-day right now." Manning attempted just 95 passes in his first two seasons at Texas but is already viewed as a potential No. 1 pick in the 2026 draft. In a story published Tuesday, The Athletic's Dane Brugler tabbed him as his top QB entering the season. Still, it would reportedly take a special circumstance for Manning to declare for the draft in 2026. He would want to play for a team that has a stable head-coaching situation and front office. Most franchises that are picking near the top of the draft don't have that. More importantly, Manning must prove he's worthy of the No. 1 pick. Despite his family name, he doesn't have a large enough sample size to show he's pro-ready. "If his last name were 'Smith' and he were a three-star recruit instead of a five-star blue-chipper, would he still appear this high early in draft rankings? Who knows," wrote Brugler. "However, what he has put on film so far has been very impressive. Now, scouts need to see it consistently each week, especially against the top opponents on Texas' schedule." Manning faces an elite opponent in Week 1. The No. 3 Ohio State Buckeyes host the No. 1 Longhorns on Aug. 30 at noon ET (Fox). The QB should probably tell his family to deflect questions about the draft until he's ready to make a decision. Speculation about his future could create even more pressure, which he doesn't need.
Russell Westbrook already made his biggest free-agency mistake
A first-ballot Hall of Famer whenever he decides to hang it up, Russell Westbrook has long been revered as one of the NBA's premier point guards, both with his aggressive play and infectious energy. Despite the former MVP's impressive resume, though, he remains unsigned nearly two months after free agency opened on June 30. It's no secret that Westbrook is no longer an All-Star-caliber player, but it's certainly jarring to see his name alongside the summer's other leftovers. Over the last two seasons, Russ has willingly accepted a bench role and shown his ability to contribute even without being the offense's focal point. He finished top-10 in Sixth Man of the Year voting with both the Los Angeles Clippers in 2023-24 and the Denver Nuggets in 2024-25. The Nuggets may have been Westbrook's most seamless fit since the 36-year-old left the Oklahoma City Thunder, which brings us to the key mistake he made this offseason: He decided to bet on himself when his career was trending south. It's understandable why Westbrook decided to decline his player option with Denver. $3.5 million is pocket change relative to today's NBA salaries, so it's possible the nine-time All-Star expected to land a bigger payday on name brand alone. But that's no longer the case with Westbrook. The Nuggets, like several teams before them, took a chance on Westbrook, whose play has been nothing short of a wild card in recent years. Alongside Nikola Jokic, though, he found success operating off-ball by utilizing his natural explosiveness, a sensible calling card for one of basketball history's most athletic playmakers. It seemed like the perfect spot for Westbrook to finish out his career. Instead, he has continued to seek out a more lucrative deal with a team that is looking to give him more offensive freedom. While the Sacramento Kings and New York Knicks are both reportedly interested in adding his services, neither team can offer both a higher salary and an expanded role. It also seems unlikely that Westbrook will find a more seamless fit for himself than what he had in Denver. Whether it's due to his erratic offensive tendencies or his relentless determination to involve himself in every action, it's easy to see why teams have to talk themselves into Westbrook at this point in his career. It appears that Russ will finally be picked up soon, but the damage has already been done. The two-time scoring champion already gave up his best chance at winning a title once he departed from Denver.
