Wayne Rooney highlighted overlooked Benjamin Sesko positive

Manchester United had one of the worst attacks in the entire Premier League last season en route to finishing near the bottom five, so they went ahead and signed three star players to transform their forward line.

Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo were brought in as established Premier League goal scorers and secondary options to the striker, but the big key was getting RB Leipzig star Benjamin Sesko over interest from the other top Premier League clubs like Chelsea and Arsenal.

Sesko has been a bit of a mixed bag for most people to start life at Old Trafford, but most Manchester United fans acknowledge that the promising former RB Leipzig standout is a major upgrade on what they had previously.

You can count legendary Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney as being among those fans who are high on what Sesko is doing, and the former England international brought up a very important point about what Sesko is doing to help the team:

“I think the goalkeeper [Lammens] has come in and done well, he’s been more direct in to Sesko, but what we are seeing now is he can compete, he does hold the ball up better than Hojlund does. We are seeing as the ball is going up to him, Mbeumo, Cunha, Mount making runs in behind. Because they know he will compete and he will win flick-ons and he will do that, so I think he has been better than what people (are) maybe suggesting, but I still think he needs to just get the ball, get hold of it, lay it off and get in the box and hope that the chances are created for him. I think he has been ok and will come good.”

Sesko has been someone who can be a real focal point of the attack. He has a big box presence about him and draws so much pressure away from Cunha, Amad Diallo, and especially Mbuemo, helping them get their numbers.

There are growing pains, yes, but as Rooney highlights, Manchester United are clearly a more dangerous and fluid team with Sesko in it, and the recent results prove that, too.
