Thomas Frank has managed to steady the ship at Tottenham after the club endured its worst ever domestic campaign last time around. The Danish tactician has brought in stability and composure this season, with the players also looking far more comfortable in his system and setup. Under Frank, the North London club have endured a brilliant start to the new season, climbing up to third place on the Premier League table.
One of the players that is enjoying life under the ex-Brentford boss is Richarlison. The Brazil international is the club’s leading goal-scorer this season, with three goals to his name already. He looks like a completely different player under Frank, with the 28-year-old leading the line more efficiently this season at the North London club.
There was a realistic chance of Richarlison leaving for pastures new in the summer. He was transfer-listed by Spurs after it became clear that he had no future at N17. But Thomas Frank decided to give him a final chance to prove his worth this season by keeping him at the club beyond the summer. The striker’s promising start to the campaign is a clear indication that he is looking to repay Frank’s faith in him.
Richarlison attracted a lot of suitors in the summer after Tottenham placed him on the transfer market. A recent report suggests that the Brazilian was on the verge of joining Orlando City during the business-end of the transfer window as the MLS outfit looked to strengthen its side by making him the face of the franchise for this season. However, a move failed to materialise after Orlando City could not match Spurs’ €40m valuation for him.
Bryan King, however, wants the Lilywhites to sell the prolific forward in the coming months if a good offer comes their way. Speaking to Tottenham News, King said,
“If anybody comes in for Richarlison and offers that kind of money (£20m), then I’d bite their hands off if I were Spurs. I think it will be a case of taking whatever they can get for him.”
The ex-scout added,
“Because he hasn’t exactly set the world alight since he’s been at Tottenham. Across all the managers who have been there. But I’d be very surprised if another Premier League club bought him.”
Bryan King has urged Tottenham to accept any offers that are around the £20m mark for Richarlison. The ex-scout believes the Lilywhites should accept any kind of money for the Brazilian, considering that he has not been able to prove his worth at N17. However, King does not think that a Premier League club would be looking to add the 28-year-old to their ranks anytime soon.
The Spurs No.9 is linked heavily with a move to Flamengo as they look to bolster their attack next year. The Brazilian giants have held preliminary talks with the Lilywhites for his signature, but there has been no progress beyond that. The report also states that Tottenham would be looking to get around £30m for the 28-year-old if they are to sell him in the coming months.
That said, a January exit appears unlikely. With the World Cup on the horizon, Richarlison is eager to prove his worth in the Premier League and secure a place in Carlo Ancelotti’s Brazil squad for the tournament next summer. Given those ambitions, a mid-season move away from Tottenham seems improbable for now.
