Why Chelsea see Alejandro Garnacho as an investment despite United’s £50m valuation

Alejandro Garnacho is holding out for a move to Chelsea, and it’s a risky strategy.

Manchester United have been looking to move Garnacho this window, but there’s no guarantee a deal will be done before the deadline.

While both club and player agree that his future lies away from Old Trafford, their interests aren’t exactly aligned beyond that.

United value Garnacho at around £50 million, which could rise higher based on some of the deals completed this summer.

Chelsea haven’t been willing to meet United’s price. They’ve set their own valuation closer to £30 million and so far have refused to budge.

Chelsea see Alejandro Garnacho as an investment opportunity

Alejandro Garnacho is keen on a move to Chelsea, wanting to remain in the Premier League, and has even turned down an offer from Bayern Munich.

What Garnacho may not fully realise is that Chelsea don’t rate him as highly as he rates himself.

Garnacho’s confidence saw him frustrated over being left out of the Europa League Final, a situation made worse when he criticised head coach Ruben Amorim after the match.

But clearly, there are some reservations within Stamford Bridge. They’re trying to bring him in at a reduced price for a reason.

Chelsea see Garnacho as more than just a player. They view him as an investment opportunity.

The club have been active in the transfer market recently but have also managed their finances well by making good sales and keeping their net spend under control.

Garnacho certainly has potential. If they can secure him for around £30 million, there’s every chance they could turn a profit down the line.

How Chelsea are profiting from their recent signings

Noni Madueke is one of the latest examples. Bought from PSV for £20 million, he moved to Arsenal for around £50 million despite netting just seven Premier League goals last season.

Djordje Petrovic was another shrewd piece of business. Chelsea picked him up for £14 million and sold him to Bournemouth a year later for £25 million.

And BBC Sport reports that Renato Veiga is close to joining Villarreal in a deal worth £30 million, just a year after moving from Basel for £12 million.

Nicolas Jackson could be next. Chelsea are reportedly looking to move him on at a profit, having signed him for around £30 million.

Garnacho, with his Argentina caps and ability to impact big games – including a goal in the FA Cup Final – fits that profile well.

If Garnacho were to give them even an average season in 2025-26, it would likely be enough to raise his value beyond the initial fee.

He’s focused on proving himself outside of Manchester United and making a point under Ruben Amorim. But he might not realise that Chelsea see him more as an asset than a long-term player.

Chelsea have made it clear they plan to move quickly through their squad options. If things don’t work out fast, there’s every chance Garnacho could find himself replaced sooner rather than later.
