Bayern Munich travel to Paris to face defending champions PSG in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League semifinals.
After defeating Real Madrid in the quarterfinals, Vincent Kompany’s side enters the tie as one of Europe’s most in-form teams.
Bayern also hold a strong recent record against Luis Enrique’s men, having won their last five Champions League meetings, including a victory earlier this season.
Despite the importance of this mach, Bayern must navigate this opening leg without Kompany on the touchline.
Vincent Kompany is suspended for the first leg after receiving his third yellow card of the competition during the quarterfinal against Real Madrid.
Under UEFA regulations, this triggers an automatic one-match touchline ban, prohibiting him from the dugout and direct communication with his players during the game.
The 40-year-old manager had expressed his frustration with the suspension, calling the current disciplinary regulations the "strictest-ever ruling."
"It's an extended format and it's the strictest-ever ruling with a lot of interpretation from referees, where sometimes you can get a yellow card wrong as well. So what happens then?" Kompany said.
"I'm not happy because of this, but it's not important. The team can do it and I'm there for the return game. I have total faith in the team, the staff, to not just continue but also gain strength and motivation out of it."
In Kompany’s absence, assistant coach Aaron Danks will take charge of touchline duties.
Danks, who previously worked with Kompany at Anderlecht and alongside Michael Carrick at Middlesbrough, spoke on the significance of the opportunity.
"It means a lot to me to work for this fantastic club," Danks said. "We now want to shape the next era and help the players write their own story."
