Yves Bissouma might get a second bite at the cherry at Tottenham this season

Tottenham midfielder Yves Bissouma has been on the cusp of leaving N17 for quite some time now. The Mali international has never really showcased his talents at Hotspur Way on a consistent basis. And it is fair to say that the 28-year-old has somehow failed to live up to the hype after failing to replicate the form he once showed during his time at Brighton.

Bissouma has been in and out of the Spurs team, highlighting his inability to perform consistently. The prolific midfielder has purple patches every now and then, but they are never really consistent, and the fans know not to make a lot out of it. However, it is fair to say that Malian played a crucial role in helping the North London club win the Europa League last season.

Ange Postecoglou was forced to rely on Bissouma during the latter stages of the competition due to the injury crisis at N17. And the 28-year-old certainly repaid Big Ange’s faith by being the standout player in crucial knockout games. Fans expected the Mali international to continue that form under Thomas Frank, but he failed to do that, rather spectacularly.

Tottenham set to retain Yves Bissouma for this season

It is now an open secret that Yves Bissouma was linked with a move away from Tottenham after falling down the pecking order under Thomas Frank. The Mali international was dropped out of the squad due to disciplinary issues earlier this season, forcing the club to place him on the transfer market. However, the Lilywhites failed to find a potential suitor for the 28-year-old in time.

Now, Thomas Frank has responded to Bissouma’s potential exit in the coming days. Speaking in his pre-match presser (via Football.london), Frank said,

“I will be surprised if anyone is leaving us now. So yes, he (Bissouma) is part of the squad.”

The Danish tactician has clearly ruled out any potential departures in the coming days, which strongly indicates that Bissouma is set to retain his spot in the team for this season. This comes in line with the report that stated that the Mali international is determined to fight his way back into the team under Thomas Frank.

One can say that the North London club have missed out on a great opportunity to cash-in on the 28-year-old, considering that he is entering the last 12 months of his contract. Spurs will now have to let the midfielder leave for pastures new next summer on a free transfer, unless he manages to turn his fortunes around in the coming months.
