Matheus Cunha was Manchester United’s main priority at the start of the 2025 summer transfer window, with his stint at Wolves attracting the Red Devils.
Last season, Cunha scored 17 goals and grabbed six assists in 36 games, lining up his Old Trafford move.
His desire to join United was a major factor in him being prioritised, not caring for the lack of European football, a theme also having drawn United to Bryan Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesko and Senne Lammens.
However, Cunha’s £62.5 million move inevitably left a gap at Wolves, one they needed to fill quickly.
As such, the Wolverhampton-based club signed Jhon Arias for £15 million from Brazilian side Fluminense.
However, Arias has now left the Molineux after only seven months, returning to Brazil, leaving Wolves in need of finding a new replacement for Cunha’s replacement.
Taking to their official website, Wolverhampton Wanderers announced: “Jhon Arias has made his return to Brazil, signing for Palmeiras in a permanent move.”
Wolves’ statement continued: “The midfielder spent seven months as a Wolves player, turning out 26 times across all competitions and chipping in with two goals.
“The 28-year-old signed under Vitor Pereira in July 2025 and featured in all but one Premier League match since then, starting 14 times and scoring against West Ham United in January.
“The Colombian’s only other goal for the club came against Shrewsbury Town in the Emirates FA Cup, while his final game arrived last weekend against Bournemouth.
“All at Wolves thank Jhon for his efforts and wish him good luck back in Brazil.”
Unfortunately for Wolves, things haven’t worked out well this year, with the club sittin at the bottom of the Premier League on only eight points, with relegation seemingly inevitable.
