Wolverhampton Wanderers travel to Newcastle United in search of their first Premier League points of the season. Having lost the last three games, Wolves are under pressure to turn things around. Manager Vítor Pereira will need to balance fresh ideas with stability to avoid a fourth consecutive league defeat. Here is our Wolves predicted lineup.
Last time out against Everton, José Sá kept his place in goal. Wolves deployed a back three of Santiago Bueno, Emmanuel Agbadou, and Toti Gomes. The midfield consisted of Jackson Tchatchoua, João Gomes, André, and Hugo Bueno.
Marshall Munetsi, Hwang Hee-chan, and Jhon Arias made up the forward trio.
Pereira has stuck with his preferred 3-4-2-1 formation. Results have not gone the Molineux club’s way so far, with three defeats out of three, leaving them bottom of the league and the only team with no points. Their performance against Everton showed some attacking promise, but again, defensive lapses proved costly.
Wolves have tended to leave themselves vulnerable when chasing the game, committing players forward and leaving gaps in defence and midfield. To compete at St James Park, Wolves must find the right balance between defensive solidity and attacking ambition.
Pereira has confirmed that Jørgen Strand Larsen is still injured after not featuring against Everton. During the pre-match press conference, he had this to say:
“They are working day by day to try and get him on the pitch. I do not know how long he will be out for, hopefully we have him back as soon as possible”.
GK: José Sá
Defence: Matt Doherty, Emmanuel Agbadou, & Toti Gomes
Midfield: Hugo Bueno, André, João Gomes, & Jackson Tchatchoua
Forwards: Fer López, Jhon Arias, & Tolu Arokodare
