Tottenham Hotspur are hoping to see Dominic Solanke fit and firing under Thomas Frank this season

Tottenham striker Dominic Solanke has endured a ‘stop-start’ stint at N17 following his high-profile switch from Bournemouth last summer. The England international has not managed to feature for the Lilywhites regularly, with constant injuries posing a big problem for the 28-year-old. This has also forced him to be on the side-lines for most parts of Thomas Frank’s short stint at N17 so far.

Solanke endured a tough start to life at the North London club last season. The prolific striker failed to make an impact during the initial months under Ange Postecoglou, with the Englishman looking lost whilst leading the line for Spurs. However, the 28-year-old managed to turn it around in the second half of the campaign by playing a vital role in helping the club win the Europa League against all odds.

As per Sofascore, Solanke ended last season with 16 goals and eight assists to his name in all competitions. To be honest, those are impressive numbers for a striker that is still getting to grips with his role at N17. Not only that, but the England international also managed to rack up three goals and two assists in seven Europa League knockout games.

Dominic Solanke needs to prove his worth at Tottenham yet again this season

Tottenham are aiming to compete hard on all four fronts under Thomas Frank this season. It is not a secret that the Lilywhites are using last season’s Europa League success as a benchmark for more trophies this time around. With the North London club aiming to close the gap on their rivals in the Premier League under Frank, many fans have questioned some players’ ability to lead Spurs to future glory.

Among the many players mentioned by the fans, Dominic Solanke’s name stands out the most. And Martin Allen has also shared the same sentiment questioning Solanke’s ability to lead the line at N17. Speaking to Tottenham News, Allen has said,

“I think Solanke’s got a lot of work to do, to be honest. He’s a good player. We all know he’s a good player. It’s a little bit different, from being a good player to actually being a player that’s going to get your team up into the top three, top two, challenging to win the Premier League.”

The ex-PL manager added,

“I’m not sure Solanke’s that good that he can change and move Tottenham up those next couple of places that they’ll be craving. He’s a good player, but I would say a top ten player rather than a top three player.”

Martin Allen believes Dominic Solanke is not going to be the player that could help Tottenham compete for the Premier League title in the coming years. The ex-manager thinks that the England international is a good player for a team that aims to compete for a Champions League spot via the league. But Allen suggests that Spurs need to upgrade if they want to close the gap on their rivals and compete for major trophies under Thomas Frank.

One way to address this problem is by bringing in a new striker next summer. Tottenham are heavily linked with a move to sign Harry Kane from Bayern Munich. The 32-year-old is facing an uncertain future in Germany, so the Lilywhites must look to test the waters for his signature. Signing Kane would benefit Dominic Solanke in the long-run, as the player would become an understudy to the legendary striker and learn from him week in week out.
