Tottenham Hotspur had quite an exciting last stretch of the 2025 summer transfer window as they landed their much-desired offensive reinforcements from the market.
On the very last day of the transfer window, they finalized the arrival on loan of the young forward Randal Kolo Muani from Paris Saint-Germain. However, their big move happened a few days before that, when they completed the signing of the Dutch forward Xavi Simons.
The Dutchman had remained linked with Chelsea for the most part of the transfer window, but the Blues continued to wait for some departures before making a concrete move for the La Masia trained forward. Meanwhile, Spurs, who had already missed out on Morgan Gibbs-White and Eberechi Eze, made their move and successfully hijacked their London rivals to land the Dutch starlet.
There is no doubt that getting Simons was a real coup for the Lilywhites, but getting him to join their team was not really an easy task. Now, a few days after the end of the transfer window, the player himself has revealed the role played by the Tottenham coach Thomas Frank in convincing him to join the North London team.
As TeamTalk has reported, the forward was talking to a Dutch outlet when he highlighted Frank’s role in this operation:
“The manager (Frank) told me a lot. Positive things, but also things I need to improve. It’s fantastic how he sees football, how he wants to make players better. Spurs is the right place for me to develop.
“And it’s great that he was honest, that he wants to improve things for me. I always think the coaches are the most important people to base a decision on. As a player, you see a coach more than your family.
“What needs to be improved? I prefer to keep that to myself, but I heard different things from Thomas Frank than from other coaches in the past. That makes sense. When I went to PSV, I was much younger, so you have to work on different things then than you do now.”
This is just one other reason to appreciate Thomas Frank, who has quickly made himself a beloved figure for the fans. His ability to communicate with the players could prove to be crucial for a side as big as Tottenham, while he has also shown his tactical acumen with the good performances against sides like Burnley and Manchester City.
As far as Simons himself is concerned, these comments also show his willingness to continue growing as a player. Hopefully, the Spurs coach will be able to work with him to iron out some of the weaknesses that he has identified in his game to help him become a truly top-class player.
