Manchester United are expected to confirm another addition soon as Ineos continue to add depth to the club’s academy.

Since Ineos took charge, there’s been a clear shift in how Manchester United approach transfers. The focus has moved away from established stars and towards younger players with long-term potential.

Last season saw the arrivals of Sekou Kone, Chido Obi, and Ayden Heaven, and this summer, Ineos are back in the market looking for more promising young talent.

Their latest target is Harley Emsden-James from Southampton. At just 16 years old, he’s already being talked about as one of the top prospects coming through their academy.

Back in June, it was reported that United had agreed a deal for Emsden-James, with director of football Jason Wilcox playing a key role in bringing him over from his former club.

Fabrizio Romano later confirmed the move, giving it his ‘Here we go’ stamp and noting that the young defender had put pen to paper with the Red Devils.

Emsden-James has now moved a step closer to finalising his transfer by posting a farewell message to Southampton.

In an Instagram post, he thanked the club for their support over the past nine years with an emotional message.

“After 9 unforgettable years at Southampton FC, my time with the club has come to an end.
I’m incredibly grateful for all the memories made and the amazing people I’ve met throughout the journey.

“A huge thank you to all the staff who have supported and guided me over the years, to my teammates who’ve become friends, and to everyone who’s been a part of this chapter with me.

“Southampton will always hold a special place in my heart. On to the next chapter!”

Emsden-James adds depth to United’s youth defence

Emsden-James is one of several young players who could play a role in the club’s long-term plans, with his future looking bright.

Emsden-James has developed as a centre-back while at Southampton and is already recognised for his leadership skills at such a young age.

Despite still being only 16, he’s been playing regularly for Southampton’s Under-18s, and that looks likely to continue once he joins up with Manchester United next season.

United weren’t the only side interested in Emsden-James. Arsenal and Aston Villa were also linked with the young defender before he made the decision to head north.

Now, he’ll be hoping to establish himself further within United’s system as he continues his development at Carrington in the coming years.
