As the inaugural season of the Athletes Unlimited Softball League (AUSL) is underway, the talent is delivering and the fans are loving it. Sellout crowds in Rosemont and Wichita witnessed the first home run and extra innings game in league history. This time, it was all about the offense taking center stage. Now, let’s take a look at Games Three and Four of the AUSL season.

Game Three: Hitting the Long Ball in Rosemont

Here, the Talons were in search of their first win of the season against the Bandits and got off to a fast start. In the top of the first, Ali Aguilar and Tori Vidales hit back-to-back homers to get the early 2-0 lead. However, the Bandits answered back with a solo homer from Morgan Zerkle in the bottom of the first. Following a scoreless second frame, the Talons scored two runs in the third with an RBI double by Caroline Jacobsen and RBI single by Bri Ellis, going up 4-1.

The bat of Bubba Nickles-Camarea added two runs with a home run, making it 4-3. An RBI double by Sydney Romero along with a Sierra Sacco RBI single capped the offense for the Talons, getting the 6-3 win. Sacco, Hannah Flippen, and Sharlize Palacios each had two hits in the victory.

Right-hander Raelin Chaffin picked up the win, going three innings and allowing three hits with two strikeouts. What’s more, Montana Fouts got the save as she struck out two batter in her one inning of work.

Game Four: A Jolt of Offense in Kansas

All things considered, the Volts looked to get win No. 2 of the young season versus the Blaze at Wilkins Stadium. The Volts made the scoreboard first in the top of the second inning with a Tiare Jennings RBI single. Soon after, Ana Gold tied the game 1-1 with a RBI double in the bottom of the inning.

In the fourth, the Volts opened their lead up with RBIs from Danieca Coffey, Michaela Edenfield, and Jessi Warren. Jennings added two more RBIs on the day in the top of the fifth, giving the Volts a 6-1 lead.

Despite Anissa Urtez hitting a two-run triple in the bottom of the sixth for the Blaze, the Volts’ bats were electric in the top half of the frame. Coffey would get two more RBIs on a double as McKenzie Clark and Amanda Lorenz had an RBI apiece. Ultimately, the Volts extinguished the Blaze 10-3.

It’s important to note this game saw a combined 26 hits (15 – Volts; 11- Blaze). Payton Gottshall went four innings while allowing two earned runs, seven hits, and striking out two for the win. For the Blaze, Baylee Klingler went 3 for 4 at the plate as Urtez, Gold, and Taylor Edwards had two hits each in the loss.
