Billy Kemper Stabbed by Surfboard, Shares Graphic Video

“You gotta pay to play,” Billy captioned the bloody clip. He continued:

“On the last day of my trip I took a bad fall and the nose of my surf board stabbed me through my hamstring and hitting my femur so hard that my first thought was, I broke my leg! After taking 5 solid waves on my head, I realized it wasn’t broken and that I had a massive hole in my leg. Rushed to the hospital in Mexico to get sewed up and then straight to LA to get a MRI for @doctor.masi to make sure there wasn’t anything still in there or any ligament / tendon damage. Honestly this was so close to being much worse and I am beyond grateful that I’m walking away from this one. Massive thank you to my boys @grueler, @open_ocean_mx, @sacraficialamb, and @arefrapwell for taking care of me. Be back soon!”

Kemper, one of the best big wave surfers in the world, has mainly made a career out of charging Maui’s premier big wave spot, Jaws, unlike anyone ever before. But he’s also a sucker for smaller, sand-bottomed tubes as well. Leading up to the injury, he shared multiple clips and shots of heavy, gut-spitting kegs from his trip to Mexico. And as luck would have it, according to Billy, the injury happened on the final day of his south-of-the-border strike mission.

But Billy’s as tough as they come; he’ll be back in no time.
