When living in divisive times, like the last 20 years, there's not all that much that people can agree on without bickering. The good news is that there is still one thing still remains true, at least in our world of waves, and that is that watching Mikey February is easy on the eyes and good for the soul.
We've featured plenty of Mikey's work before, like our feature in the latest print mag about his travels throughout Africa with Alan van Gysen, to his hit film Sonic Souvenirs, to his iconic lines on his signature Feb's Fish as seen in Spearfish. Now, we're lucky to have more beautiful surfing paired with music as if it's a food and wine at a Michelin Star restaurant.
Full disclosure, this edit isn't hot off the press--it's been online for the past two weeks--but it's certainly worth sharing. We got a little lost in last week's Teahupo'o madness and, being based in Southern California, we got a little caught up in that same swell as it traveled across the Pacific to grace our shores...can you blame us? Didn't think so.
In case you haven't yet seen this, it's a perfect accomplice for the waves that are in play on the West Coast and those that are about to hit the East Coast. As is typical of an Mfeb creation, the music is anything but typical. This edit is set to none other than Prince, with a lesser known jam (especially for today's generation of surfers), "A Piano & A Microphone 1983".
Have there been other surf edits set to Prince? Possibly. If so, they certainly can't match Mikey's absolute barrel fest from Cape Verde, an island nation off the coast of West Africa that 98% of California surfers don't know exists.
"The wave broke just once, then it was gone, and so were we. All Time is All Time."
