It's been a minute since Dane, Patrick and Tanner Gudauskas rallied the tribe for a good, old fashioned surfboard drive, but the Positive Vibe Warriors are back. The boys have teamed up with the Hobie Surf Shop in San Clemente to host a one-day drive to support the amazing work being done by the organization Native Like Water.
The surfboard drive will take place on Saturday, November 16, from 3:00-5:00pm at the Hobie shop in San Clemente. They're looking for new or used surfboards (must be water tight), as well as leashes, fins and boardshorts.
Founded nearly 25 years ago, Native Like Water works with Native American teens and young adults in California and Mexico, as well as internationally, to rekindle their deep cultural connection to the ocean, as well as learn about conservation, health and wellness and much more. From scuba certification, to cultural exchanges, to scholarships, the programs they offer are wide-ranging and highly impactful.
"They get the kids out in the ocean and let them flourish. It's amazing," Dane shares. "There's so much experience and knowledge that goes into everything they do, and it resonates on such a deep spiritual level, we couldn't be more honored to team up with them."
The Gudauskas boys' Positive Vibe Warriors Foundation has a long history of hosting surfboard drives to help support surf-stoked causes around the world. They've held board drives for communities in South Africa, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, and more. The secret to their success is the fact that every surfer has an extra board in their rack that they haven't ridden for awhile. Rather than let it collect dust, the board drives give surfboards a second, noble life and helps perpetuate the magic and power of riding waves.
Having personally experienced these board drives over the years, they're incredibly powerful and awesomely inspiring. The Gudauskas boys have been busy tending to their relatively new fatherly duties, but it's so good to see them getting back in the ring and supporting Native Like Water in this way. Grassroots and real, you never know what's going to happen when you give a kid a surfboard and turn them loose in the ocean. A lot of times magic quickly ensues.
