Just one month after wild weather devastated North Queensland week a freak cyclone hit Coolangata and toppled a young boy who had just come out from having a surf. Cyclone Kirrily, was predicted to make landfall on Thursday and bring the potential of severe winds, heavy rains and potential flooding.

One thing that certainly wasn’t predicted was what happened to Benson, “I was having a super fun surf until this horrific gust of wind came though” and then, as for what happened in the video, “I felt like I was flying for a second.”

Thankfully, Benson was unharmed but his surfboard wasn’t –as you can imagine, the wind gave it some serious damage. Luckily for him though, a few people took notice to make things right. The crew at Kookslams teamed up with Boardriders Coolangatta to gift him a brand new 5’0 JS Zero Gravity.

Kookslams is famous for posting a wide array of “curated kook slammage” ranging from surfing slams to influencer fails and other extraordinary mishaps. With this particular video though, they couldn’t standby without trying to do something to help remedy the situation. The immediate thought was, “we need to get this kid a new board.”

Not going to lie, I like your style here Kookslams, well played. Getting involved with action sports like surfing and skateboarding automatically put you at risk for kooky slams and, if there’s someone filming, you can bet that it will end up on the Internet. In this case though, it wasn’t his fault that wind turned him into a temporary windsurfer.

They were tipped off to Benson’s video by none other than lady GOAT Stephanie Gilmore who may just have earned another accolade, that of guardian angel.

Benson, who has an identical twin brother, lives in Manly and has been surfing his whole life and is a part of the Queenscliff Boardriders Club.
