They’re a double-edged sword, in surfing, party waves. One one hand, you get to share a wave with your buddy, basking in the glory of one wave, two dudes (or dudettes). On the other, you gotta share. And surfers hate sharing like Donald Duck loves gold.
But Jacob “Zeke” Szekely” got one of the good party waves recently at Desert Point, a double-tube. Zeke explained:
“Craziest Party Wave of My Life! & yea i know I’m a D*ck, but if i would have just sat there and let everyone paddle around me, then I never would have had the chance to get a Crazy Double Barrel Like this I’ve always Dreamed of Making a Barrel Behind someone. We Probably would have made it the whole way if that Brazo guy didn’t Burn us at the End! Shouts outs to the Homie from Peru who wanted to Kill Me on this Wave, but he ended up being pretty hyped after we shared an incredible Ride Together.”
It's not the first double-tube we’ve seen at Deserts, either. The other one was much less friendly. Last year, a Brazilian surfer aggressively pulled down another after a drop-in. The dropper-inner wrote: “So, this guy dropped in on the wave behind me, after I was already on the wave, and he pushes me down. And then, he yells at me, saying he can catch any wave he wants because he is Brazilian and been surfing at Deserts for 20 years.”
Luckily, Zeke’s was more in the spirit of fun, rather than malice. But Deserts these days…word is it’s getting pretty hectic out there. Stay safe, folks.
