12 players at Wimbledon hit with fines with former champion handed four-figure sum for outburst

There are repercussions for the outbursts and actions on court and one player in particular has been handed a heavy sum to pay after an incident on court with 12 in all falling foul so far.

That being doubles player Henry Patten who has been fined £9,180 ($12,500) for verbally abusing staff who tried to cut short his practice session. He will hope to make up some of it as he is into the Last 16 of the men's doubles alongside regular partner Harri Heliövaara.

The Brit and Finn pairing won the men's doubles title last year and will face Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Jordan Thompson on Monday. They have won £43,750 in prize money thus far and that will increase to £87,500 if they progress. But Patten has already forfeited part of that.

Adrian Mannarino was also handed a fine for unsportsmanlike conduct against Valentin Royer. He reached the third round after coming through qualifying but lost to Andrey Rublev. He earned £152,500 so in comparison to the doubles star who already loses half by proxy due to splitting it it's a drop in the ocean.

Elena Pridankina has been fined $5,000 (£3,672) too for unsportsmanlike conduct during her opening double loss to Jelena Ostapenko and Hsieh Su-wei. Zizou Bergs and Halley Baptiste were fined for an audible obscenity. While Varvara Gracheva was fined for an abuse of racquets.

Anna Kalinskaya too was fined for unsportsmanlike conduct. All have been fined $4,000 (£2,938). Jule Niemeier back in qualifying was fined $2,500 for unsportsmanlike conduct. Alex Bolt, Chloe Paquet, Colton Smith and Luca Van Assche all also hand back $2,000 for various issues.

They have now taken back at least $50,000 in prize money with still most of the tournament to go. Albeit perhaps the committee are missing the money that Nick Kyrgios used to have to hand back for anything from wearing the wrong clothes on court to outbursts at umpires. He is not involved this year so the kitty likely isn't as big.
