'Always keep going no matter what' - Tatjana Maria shares words of inspiration after defeating Elena Rybakina at Queen's Club

The dream run lives on for German qualifier Tatjana Maria, who upset former Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina at the 2025 Queen's Club Championships to reach her first WTA semifinal of the season.

After defeating former Roland Garros runner-up Karolina Muchova in the round of 16, Maria kept her momentum going with a 6-4 7-6(4) victory over Rybakina in the quarterfinals on Friday. The German tennis star capitalized on her opportunities, taking advantage of any shaky play from her Kazakh opponent to score the victory.

Maria ecstatic following impressive win

The 37-year old had to go through the qualifying rounds in order to reach the main draw of the WTA 500 event. Maria's path to the semifinal has been a difficult one, as she has had to score wins over Leylah Fernandez, Muchova and Rybakina, all of whom have competed in Grand Slam finals. Awaiting Maria in the final four is another Major finalist, as 2025 Australian Open champion Madison Keys battled from a set down to overcome Diana Shnaider in their quarterfinal match.

Nonetheless, Maria chose to embrace the moment. During her post-match interview, the World No.86 was overcome with emotion as she thanked the fans and her team. One of the few mothers on the WTA Tour, Maria expressed her disbelief at reaching this stage this late in her career.

"Oh my God.. it means so much to me to be here," said Maria. "Perfect example to never give up and to always keep going no matter what. I’m still here. I’m living this dream.
"Having my family here with me and my amazing team. I’m super proud to be here in the SF. I hope in a few years you’ll see my daughter in the same stage."
