Novak Djokovic's Golden Slam bid ends with loss to Alexander Zverev at Olympics

Novak Djokovic's Golden Slam bid came to an end in Tokyo with a 1-6, 6-3, 6-1 loss to Germany's Alexander Zverev in the semifinals of the tennis tournament at this summer's Olympics.

Djokovic was attempting to become the first man to win all four Grand Slam titles and Olympic gold in the same year. He won the Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon this year and needed the U.S. Open and Olympic Gold to complete the Golden Slam.

Steffi Graf is the only tennis player to complete the Golden Slam, doing so in 1988.

Djokovic will now compete for a bronze medal against Carreno Busta, while Zverev will go for gold against Karen Khachanov.

Djokovic's only Olympic medal was bronze in singles at the 2008 Beijing Games. He can still win gold in Tokyo in mixed doubles.

The 34-year-old could still become the first man since Rod Laver in 1969 to win all four Grand Slam titles in the same year.
