Andy Murray has finally addressed the controversy surrounding Emma Raducanu’s late withdrawal from their planned mixed doubles match at Wimbledon in 2024. The pairing was meant to be Murray’s swansong on the iconic grass courts, but Raducanu’s decision to pull out at the last moment led to a wave of criticism directed at the young Brit.
Many fans voiced their frustration, claiming Murray had been denied a proper farewell, while Murray’s mother, Judy, also appeared to express disappointment in a social media post—though she later clarified her comments had been misinterpreted.
Speaking now, Murray has downplayed the incident, insisting that there is no lingering tension between him and Raducanu.
“We exchanged multiple messages since Wimbledon and things were fine after we cleared everything up,” Murray said in an interview with The Sunday Times. “It was obviously a pretty emotional time for me and everyone around me, so it was hard but, like I said, I was really happy with the way that my career finished. I got to play my last match at Wimbledon with my brother.”
Murray also explained that his relationship with Raducanu was never particularly close on a personal level, so nothing has really changed.
“Emma’s not someone that beforehand we were communicating all the time or discussing ideas about her game and things like that, so that hasn’t changed,” he added.
While the episode sparked heated debate among tennis fans, Murray’s calm reflection appears to have settled any doubts about bad blood between the two. For him, the chance to close his career alongside his brother Jamie ultimately overshadowed any disappointment.
