Andy Murray to pull out of Roland Garros to play a Challenger-125 event? Here’s what we know

The three-time Grand Slam winner suffered a serious knee injury while playing against Tomas Machac in the third round of the Miami Open. The Brit was pushing for a victory in the deciding set of the match when he twisted his knee. Though he went for medicals he returned to court to see the match through but ended up losing.

There were rumours he was going to miss the Wimbledon Championship, but the 36-year-old surprisingly returned earlier before many presumed. Though he couldn’t make it to the Italian Open, he will be competing at the Challenger clay event in Bordeaux this week. He will then compete at the Geneva Open the following week.

Meanwhile, Murray is still on the entrance list for the French Open. Reports indicate that the British star believes he will not go deep into the French Open, as he still returning from injury but has set his mind on defending the Surbiton Challenger title. The 36-year-old defeated Jurij Rodionov in the final last year to claim his first title of the season.

After Surbiton, Murray is expected to play at the ATP Tour event in Stuttgart the following week but will not defend his Nottingham title, as he plans to take enough rest ahead of Wimbledon, which is now a priority.

Andy Murray and Dan Evans will be partnering for the Paris Olympics doubles. Murray who is a gold medalist winner at the Olympics is expected to join the squad to Paris, as he hopes to record another success, this time with fellow veteran Evans.

The duo will first partner at the French Open doubles as preparation for the Olympics. Both players are already on the singles entry list for the French Open and have been reported to have submitted their names for the doubles event.

The 36-year-old would have been ideally paired with Joe Salisbury as Great Britain captain Leon Smith is mulling at the Olympics, but Salisbury’s commitment with Rajeev Ram of the USA means Murray will have to play alongside Evans.
