World No. 8 Jack Draper has made a significant change to his coaching setup, hiring Jamie Delgado as his new head coach ahead of what promises to be a decisive 2026 campaign.

Interestingly, Delgado previously worked with former World No. 1 Andy Murray — the very player Draper has often cited as his idol. Now, the current British No. 1 looks to follow in his hero’s footsteps by teaming up with the same coach who helped guide Murray to some of his greatest career heights.

Who Is Jamie Delgado?

A former professional player himself, Jamie Delgado reached a career-high ranking inside the top 150 and competed in 23 consecutive editions of Wimbledon — a record for a British player at the time. His best singles result at the Championships was reaching the second round, a feat he achieved three times in his career.

After retiring, Delgado transitioned into coaching and quickly made his mark. In 2016, Andy Murray appointed him as assistant coach, and under Delgado’s guidance, Murray went on to capture the Wimbledon title, the ATP World Tour Finals, and end the year ranked World No. 1.

Following his successful partnership with Murray, Delgado also worked with Denis Shapovalov, Gilles Simon (his former doubles partner), and, more recently, Grigor Dimitrov. His collaboration with Dimitrov, which ran from 2023 to mid-2025, proved highly fruitful as the Bulgarian returned to the world’s Top 10 and reached multiple Masters 1000 finals during that period.

Draper’s 2025 Season: From Career Highs to Injury Setbacks

The 2025 season marked a breakout year for Jack Draper. He climbed to a career-high ranking of World No. 4, leading his charge with a stunning Indian Wells title run, where he defeated defending champion Carlos Alcaraz on his way to capturing his first Masters 1000 trophy.

Draper carried that momentum into the Madrid Masters, where he advanced to the final before losing a tight three-set battle to Casper Ruud. However, his progress stalled after the Rome Masters when an arm injury began to trouble him.

As his fitness declined, Draper exited early at both Roland Garros and Wimbledon and later withdrew from the U.S. summer swing. He attempted a comeback at the U.S. Open, but retired after his first-round match due to recurring arm issues. Shortly afterward, he ended his 2025 season to focus on long-term recovery and health.

What This Partnership Means for 2026

Entering 2026, few doubt that, when fully fit, Jack Draper belongs among the world’s elite. He is part of a generation expected to challenge the likes of Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner for the sport’s biggest prizes. With a renewed focus on physical conditioning and the tactical expertise of Jaime Delgado in his corner, Draper will aim not only to return to the top five but also to establish himself as a consistent Slam contender.

All eyes in Britain and beyond will be watching to see whether Delgado can once again replicate his past success, just as he did with Murray, and help Draper rise to the very summit of men’s tennis.
