Iga Swiatek played a perfect final at Wimbledon, defeating American star Amanda Anisimova with a historic 6-0, 6-0 score. This feat had only happened once before in the Open Era: 37 years ago in the 1988 French Open, where Steffi Graf beat Natasha Zvereva.
The Pole conceded only one set on her way to the final, though undoubtedly her best match was the title decider. At the Champion's Dinner, Swiatek was asked if she considered giving her opponent a game to avoid such a lopsided result, but the Pole completely dismissed the idea.
Swiatek capitalized on her rival's constant errors, winning 70% of her service points and 69% of her return points. 10 winners and 11 unforced errors were enough to overcome the erratic Anisimova, who had just 8 winners and 28 unforced errors, along with a poor 45% first-serve in – far from Swiatek's 78%.
The Pole claimed her 6th Grand Slam title and first at Wimbledon with a perfect score. She expressed her pride, stating that any of her colleagues would agree not to give anything away in a match of this nature, despite the score. "Any athlete would understand," the World No. 3 said. "I didn't, but I think any athlete would understand," she reiterated.
The 24-year-old player also highlighted how important it was for her to get revenge in a tournament that had troubled her throughout her career, especially after a year of struggling with her form and not winning titles for 13 months, dating back to Roland Garros 2024. "I am an emotional person, inside I feel much more than I show outside, I knew in this tournament I had to be brave."
"In the final, since I won the semifinal, I felt a bit more nervous, so I knew I had to be in the zone, fight for every point, not take anything for granted, and at the end it finished with a score like that," the former No. 1 added. "It wasn’t planned, but I’m happy that I used every opportunity to finally lift the trophy because it’s the best feeling ever.”
