The ATP Masters 1000 event in Shanghai is heating up quite nicely. The Round of 16 draw features fresh faces alongside veterans, including Daniil Medvedev vs Learner Tien, making the coming days full of exciting tennis action. As ever, we preview and predict all the scheduled matches for you. But who will advance?

ATP Shanghai Day 8 Predictions

Jiri Lehecka vs Arthur Rinderknech

Head-to-head – Lehecka 1-1 Rinderknech

Jiri Lehecka has had a solid year so far, winning a title and boasting a 36-18 win-loss record this year, according to the ATP. The Czech loves the faster courts, and his heavy baseline hitting is a treat to watch. He faces Arthur Rinderknech, who is in red-hot form himself, taking out Alexander Zverev. The Frenchman should be happy with the conditions here in Shanghai, as his big serve and flat groundstrokes fit perfectly well. This should be a very tight match with Lehecka just winning this one on the back of his more consistent ground strokes.

Prediction: Lehecka in 3

Felix Auger-Aliassime vs Lorenzo Musetti

Head-to-head – Auger-Aliassime 3-4 Musetti

This should easily be the match of the day. Felix Auger-Aliassime has found excellent form since his semifinal run at the US Open, and the Canadian has started strong this week as well. He takes on Lorenzo Musetti, a player who has had great results this year but has yet to win a title. On these courts, Auger-Aliassime’s heavy baseline strokes should cause a lot of damage, especially when it is directed at Musetti’s single-hander. The Italian will no doubt mix it up, and his slice can cause trouble for the aggressive Canadian, but it is unlikely to be a match-winning tactic.

Prediction: Auger-Aliassime in 3

Nuno Borges vs Alex de Minaur

Head-to-head – First Meeting

It has been a great run so far for Nuno Borges, winning three high-quality matches, but the streak is in danger of being ended as he now has to contend with Alex de Minaur. The Australian is highly motivated and has dismantled his opponents with ease so far. Expect Borges to be slightly fatigued as well, and de Minaur to capitalize on that. Expect the Australian to continue his strong week.

Prediction: de Minaur in 2

Daniil Medvedev vs Learner Tien

Head-to-head – Medvedev 0-2 Tien

Daniil Medvedev may grow tired of seeing Learner Tien across the net this year. They have met twice, and both those matches have been marathon ones. Medvedev had to retire in the second round just last week in Beijing. Tien has had a breakthrough year and is coming off a final appearance in Beijing. Both players have looked good this week, with Medvedev showing signs of returning to his best, as he generally has fantastic results post the US Open. Expect Medvedev to dig in deep here and have a real shot at the trophy.

Prediction: Medvedev in 3
