The ATP Winston-Salem Round of 32 stage contained some surprising results, including Stefanos Tsitsipas‘s exit. That means the draw is open, providing a great chance for the remaining players to win the title. We here at LWOT predict all the action, including Sebastian Korda vs Kamil Majchrzak, in two articles.
Head-to-head: Darderi 1-1 Kecmanovic
Darderi’s tight three-set triumph against Mackenzie McDonald was a thrilling and high-quality battle. Kecmanovic needs to make his superior backhand count in this matchup to give himself a chance of winning. If the Italian dictates with his forehand, a victory for him is inevitable. I am backing Nardi to find enough of those moments to triumph again and reach the quarterfinal.
Prediction: Darderi in 2
Head-to-head: First meeting
Mpetshi Perricard’s win against Pedro Martinez in a deciding set was typical for the huge-serving Frenchman. This matchup against his compatriot Muller could also be decided by fine margins. Although solid in all departments, I feel Muller is slightly more likely to be broken. His decent return may not be enough to apply consistent pressure against the best server in tennis.
Prediction: Mpetshi Perricard in 2
Head-to-head: First meeting
Baez’s sole title outside clay was at the 2023 iteration of this tournament. At his best, van de Zandschulp is a better hard court player than the Argentine, but has always been inconsistent. However, the Dutchman played superbly in the previous round to beat Matteo Arnaldi. If he stays near that level, his flat hitting can rush Baez and stop him from controlling rallies with his forehand.
Prediction: van de Zandschulp in 3
Head-to-head: Soneo 1-0 Munar
Defending champion Sonego’s battle against wild card Stefan Dostanic was the unexpected match of the tournament so far. Dostanic massively outperformed his ranking to push the Italian to a deciding set tiebreak. Sonego loves the medium-speed hard courts in Winston-Salem, and coming through a tight and high-quality match might give him even more momentum. The always-capable Munar might find this too difficult a challenge.
Prediction: Sonego in 2
